When darkness knocks

Damien – POV I pulled into the club’s parking lot, my heart pounding. Headlights cut through the night fog—and then I saw him. Cris was slumped in his car, shoulders shaking, face pale and drenched in tears. My chest tightened. Without thinking, I yanked open his car door and looked down at him. “Get out.” He looked up, broken and trembling. “I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to—” “Shut up,” I said, cutting him off. “You’re coming with me.” I pulled him out and into a rough hug. It was stiff, awkward, but overflowing with unsaid emotions. “You’re not a burden, Cris.” “But Dad will never—” “To hell with him,” I snapped. “He never cared. You don’t owe him anything. Don’t let his opinion define you.” He gave a weak smile, but then his eyes widened in panic. “Where’s Luxian? You left him… for me.” “He’s fine,” I assured him, nudging him lightly as I opened the passenger door. “Now… who’s the human?” “A guy… I think his name’s Ken. But what if he finds out about me? What if he leaves? What if Dad—” “Come on, Cris,” I interrupted as I pulled out of the parking lot. “They’re using us. And you still want their approval? Man, do your thing. And your mate? He’ll like you. Trust me.” Eventually, I pulled into the old cabin by the pond—the place we always go when the world feels too heavy. It’s quiet… peaceful. Safe. Perfect for Luxian’s transformation too. Cris looked around and then at me, smiling softly. “You know he’ll find out the truth soon.” “That’s not my problem,” I said, jaw clenched. “You’re scared,” Cris said. “You don’t want him to remember who you really are. You don’t want to tie him down.” Before I could respond, he got out. “I’m heading back to the club later. Gotta finish up some files.” He didn’t wait for my reply—just disappeared into the house. ⸻ Luxian – POV Damien left me in the middle of nowhere. No word. Just… gone. I saw the worry in his eyes before he left, but it still doesn’t justify abandoning me here. Standing by the window, I reached for my phone to call Ken—but froze. I felt eyes on me. Watching. From the trees. I glanced out… nothing. Still, the chill crawling down my spine didn’t fade. Shaking it off, I hit the call button. A few rings, and Ken picked up. “Hey dude,” he greeted cheerfully. “Hey… I won’t be able to make it to the club. Sorry.” “Why not? I’ve been waiting. And guess what…” “Why are you so happy?” I asked, trying to smile. “He came to me. We talked. Well, I talked… but he left right after. So rude, right?” I heard him whine on the line. “So what now?” I asked. “I’m staying. I’ll wait for him. He’s going to explain why he walked out. No one ghosts me,” he added, still sulking. “Alright, dude. Have fun.” “Wait—why aren’t you coming again?” “Something came up,” I said quickly—then stopped. There was a noise from the living room. “I’ll call you back,” I muttered and hung up. Walking into the room, I spotted a broken vase on the floor. I bent to pick it up. “Probably a rat,” I told myself, though my voice didn’t sound convinced. Then I heard a car pull up outside. I peeked out the window and let out a breath. “Thank God. He’s back. This place is creepy.” Damien walked in. His eyes locked on me—and a chill ran through me. “Let’s go,” he said. His eyes were glowing red. I stepped back. “What’s going on, Mr. Damien?” “This place isn’t safe anymore. Either come with me… or stay here and wait for them to find you.” “Who’s coming? Where are we going?” I asked, but he ignored me. “Come—if you want,” he muttered, already walking away. Something about the way he said it sent warning bells through my body. I didn’t want to follow him. Every instinct screamed no. I wanted to run. Every instinct screamed that something was wrong. But it was Damien. And when it’s him… I don’t get to say no.” And I don’t really have a choice. His eyes do that when he’s… changing again. It’s probably just another episode. I told myself that as I followed him into the night.
