/HANNAHA’S POV/
The morning was cool and I will say, its being quite a long time since I woke up this happy, I got to the bath and had a quick shower, I didn’t know where the joyful or happy vibes was coming from and I do not mind actually, because I plan to enjoy every seconds of it while it lasts. I know quite well that on getting to the office, there will be allot of forces out to against me that will try to kill this good vibes I am having right now, so why not enjoy it to the fullest while it lasts.
I went to the wardrobe and facts that my clothes were all in order gave me a different pleasing feeling entirely. I decided to dress as cooperate as possible, and also not forgetting to let my feminine side show to the fullest. A short black suit worn above a short sleeved white shirt will do, the white shirt is well tucked into a high –waist flared palazzo trouser. In the spirit of identifying with my gender more, I decided to have a light make up which included wetting my lips with a pink gloss and a dark eyeliner. I also decided for the first time to let my hair fall instead of tying it up in a twisted bun or a sleek ponytail like I normally do to work.
Just as I was about to leave the house, I stopped and check my watch, I still got about one hour to before I will be considered late, and the drive to work is just thirty minutes. A quick look at the kitchen counter, I sighted my car keys.
“Why don’t you like driving Hannah? You’ve got a very nice looking car god dammit” I soliloquize to myself.
I walked back to the counter and grab the keys and decided to go with the car, after all, it’s clean and in a very good shape, moreover it gives me more of the female vibes that I’m grooving in at the moment. While driving out of the park, I decided not to let anyone spoil my mood, so I will be getting to work a bit late with about two racks of coffee and make sure to get there just when the Monday brief is about to start, the coffee should by me a bit of goodwill from other agents. The brief is something Douglas has initiated since his first week of taking charge of the division, and I will say, it is quite helpful for the lucky ones.
When I say the lucky ones, I mean Sam and other of my colleagues who gets assigned to a new task every week, or at least almost every week, and that’s because they were able to solve the previous ones with a good record. Unlike me who flops cases after cases, sometimes I am left a case about a month or almost two before it is either reassigned to another person, that’s if I haven’t messed up the evidence and clues of the case.
I stopped at a café that’s about five minutes’ drive away from the division, I had my favorite espresso and ordered for two racks of same. Immediately I got to the division, I had already made my travel light by driving, I needed not to carry a handbag or anything of such, so the racks of espressos were the only thing I had in my hands with my mobile and keys in my pocket.
I stepped in to the division and walked straight to the conference room, where these briefs normally take place. Douglas was already standing and with all evidence he also just stepped in and was just about to start.
“Good morning everyone…”I greeted with a full grin trying as much as possible to maintain my good vibes.
“Good morning Hannah…” I got a response from virtually all those seated in the room.
“What’s the good mood Hannah, you mind sharing” Dorothy had asked as she settled down after getting a glass of water from the dispenser.
“Maybe she won a lottery or at best she finally solves a case…” Sam had said with full sarcasm, causing a very good laugh to go round the room.
“Agent Sam, I won’t tolerate such acts of insolence from you or any one on this table against anyone” Douglas had stated showing good authority of the table.
“Well guys, please join me in cheering up your mornings with a cup of espresso” I said and immediately dropped a rack at one end of the table while I walked to the other end where my reserved sit is and dropped the other rack. I settled myself in before I realized I was supposed to come in with a file and at least some writing materials. Immediately I stood up and stretched to grab a pen from the cup in the center and quickly also picked a paper from the tray just beside Douglas.
“I think you really good at this Hannah…” Sam started again, after having a sip from the cup of espresso in his hand.
“Pardon…” I said quickly as I needed more clarification on what he was trying to say.
“I mean to say the espresso is very good, you have a good taste” he complemented and went in for another sip from the hot drink.
“Oh thank you” I said with a smile on my face as my thoughts were all saying, oh yeah the day is going well as planned. But then Sam still had to prove the jerk he is.
“You should think about a career as barista, I see you not flopping any coffee as you do with cases here” he mentioned with a very wicked smirk on his face as he take a sip again from the cup. Most of the agents on the table understood the joke and could not help but giggled.
“Agent Sam, I won’t repeat myself again, take your time and watch your words” Douglas had stated again, though this time he seems angrier but it was obvious he also got the joke.
I maintained my mood regardless of what is being thrown at me, I didn’t care anymore, yes I still want to succeed, but this time it is to satisfy myself and not to prove anything to anyone especially this annoying jerk before me who calls himself Sam.
“Alright guys, a very well done to everyone for last week, and congratulations to Dorothy who won her case against Julio and his boys also, that dude has been a lot of pain in the ass for me since I got here” I round of applause was passed around the room in congratulations to Dorothy after Douglas announced her success to the house.
“And we can’t but acknowledge the effort agent Sam had put into this case before Dorothy came on board to put the icing on the cake.
“So for this week, since we all are still having the case from last week, I will like us all to put more effort in finishing up by the end of this week. Dorothy, I have a new assignment for you” Douglas announced as he stood up from his chair to have a bit of walk around the table.
“Okay sir” Dorothy responded all enthusiastic as she opened up her file to keep notes of the information that will be given to her.
“Intel getting to us that the Jones syndicate has lost something very important to them, what we know is that it is supposed to be hard drive or so, containing every information about them. Now we don’t know what it is exactly, nor do we know who has it or where he is, all we know is that what we looking for is here in Florida.” Douglas was all into giving the information, and all my thought was, is this not the case I was supposed to get, yes, It sounded exactly like what dad said I will be getting, why is it going to Dorothy then.
“We don’t really have much information about this case, but here you should get everything we have on the subject matter, and please try to make sure we get our hands on it before they do, it’s now in the vulnerable and that’s the only window we got” Douglas had concluded has he tossed a file over to Dorothy.
“Errrmmmm Hannah, you will be going to the Miami docks and supervise the inflow and outflow of shipments, a source told me there will delivery of some goods from south America over the week, he isn’t sure of what is coming nor is he sure of when it is coming actually, so just be on guard and try to be anonymous on the dock” Douglas announced to the amusement of most of the people on the table.
“Okay sir…” I said still trying to look all enthusiastic as possible, I was furious but controlled myself, I wouldn’t want to give any of those jerks the pleasure of seeing me not happy about what I got.
“Okay, haven said all of that, I guess we’ve come to the end of today’s brief, I wish you all a very exciting and adventurous week ahead” Douglas said concluding the meeting as he made to start moving towards the exit.
“Adventurous week indeed…” Sam stated just as Douglas disappeared through the door.
“We all know, some people are not getting any adventure nor will the week be exciting” he pointed out with a chuckle that was followed up by the rest of the agents in the room.
“Special supervising agent” I heard on of the other agent mentioned as he stepped out of the room, I make sure I remained calm and didn’t fling until everyone was out before I stood up angrily and walked straight to Douglas’s office.
“What happened, why did you give my case out to Dorothy? I walked into the office and fired at him as I stood straight waiting for him to give me a proper response.
“Who told you that was your case?” he fired back at me as relaxed his back into the chair.
“Come on Sir, you know how I got to know.” I responded back.
“Well, young lady, that case has allot of people interested in it, and allot of interest needs to be protected, in fact she was specially mentioned just this morning” he explained to me with his fingers on the table intertwined.
I slumped into the chair and began to realize the case was what was actually giving me a good vibes this morning and now that it is gone, the vibe is also gone with it and my sad sorry self is back.
“So you mean to say even my father couldn’t do anything about it” I asked in a calm voice contrary to what I was using earlier.
“Well I don’t know about that, all I know is that the directives came from him”. He concluded and just relaxed back to the chair. I sighed and got up to leave his office, then I heard Douglas called out.
“Hannah…” I stopped just in front of the door as I looked back at him.
“I don’t know why the case caught the interest of so many people at the top of the hierarchy making me have the feeling that the job is not as easy as it seems to look, so don’t feel bad and move on, I don’t think Dorothy too will be able c***k the case and find this mysterious thing we looking for”
“So I am left to be the special supervising agent of the Miami dock” I said to myself as I walked out of his office dejected.
