/HANNAH’s POV/
It all still seems too good to be true when I got back that evening, oh yeah, I officially recorded my first success as an agent, after three years and still counting. But today, that counting has stopped. And the success ain’t just a small catch by a newbie trying to climb up the ladder and taste what success as an agent feels like for the first time. Well, I can take that back, I was tasting it for the first but no way am I going to name this a small catch, it’s huge and the blast was very loud.
But nonetheless, I won’t say I got all the fulfilments I aspired and expected to get from this ‘huge and loud’ success of mine, oh yeah I am talking about Sam, I was so anticipating to see the look on his face, but rather than him having a disappointing or maybe face showing disgust for what I just achieved, he disappointed me with an expression of contempt because I stood just at the entrance, watching as the men walked into the armory to submit their weapons, I began to unclip the bulletproof jacket off my ribs and think of the devil and he’ll appear, a voice came from behind me.
“Great job Hannah…” Sam congratulated as stepped to my front trying to scratch the tip of his left eyebrows with his right Thumb. I was suppressed as to how he got the news about the job that fast, I haven’t told anyone yet, and though I can be too sure that Douglas have not spread the news already. But right now I didn’t really care how he got the news, rather, I just want to see the disappointment my success must have bring to him.
“Thank you.” I muttered out, not knowing what to say as his bravery to actually acknowledge and congratulate was a bit of a shocker for me.
“You really worked in silent to stand up to the challenge, that’s very nice of you, I really admire that.” He said now having a genuine friendly smile on his face.
“Really…?” I mentioned, rhetorically questioning him, giving him a doubting smirk.
“What do you mean by that?” he responded to my rhetorical question with a real question now, but before I could process an answer for his question, he badged in like always.
“Well, I don’t know what you thinking, but the truth is I am impressed by what you achieved and I will only be hurting myself if I don’t accept and acknowledge it.” He said this time with his right hand in his pocket while his left hand gives demonstration of what he said, and he pocketed it too once he was done.
“Congratulations Agent Hannah…” he finally said, now taking his right hand out of his pocket and stretching it to me.
“Thank you “I said to him taking his hand still giving him that doubtful smirk.
“You know if I have not known you, I would have thought you are one sweet humble gentleman who treats people with respect and humility” I said to him.
“What are you trying to say?” he asked me with a sheepish smile on his face.
“What I am trying to say is that, you are an asshole” I pointed out bluntly to him.
“Come on, why will you say such harsh words to a colleague?” he asked in a very a polite way I can never imagine from him.
“Because anytime you’re around me, you keep tormenting me about getting to be an agent only due to my father’s position and influence” I retorted at him trying as much as possible not to sound rude as he seems to be friendly at the moment, and of course, the excited mood I was at that moment can't let my mood switch to anger.
"Well, if that's what you referring too, my opinion on that hasn't change, because I honestly wonder how you passed the academy and got to this position" He said and this time he had that annoying tone and expression he used to have whenever he talks to about that subject.
"Are you serious now?" I asked in surprise of how it turned out his voice came out this time, I thought my win today has earned me his soft side.
“Don’t get it twisted lady…” he began saying as he turned and stated moving away from me.
“Yeah, no doubt, you did great today and I think you deserve that, but there’s no way you can prove to me that your father’s position and his influence in the agency wasn’t a very huge factor that got you this job.” He declared, clearing the air of his stands and opinion about me.
“Oh, I see…” I said nodding at him as his quite surprising statement made me understand the kind of man he is actually as he gave me a two finger salute bowing out into the hallway.
Oh yeah, I was disappointed for not really getting what I want, even though he is a pain in the ass, he seems to know a good job when he sees one, and doesn’t mind too acknowledge it no matter the feud between he and the person.
“Congratulations Hannah” Dorothy also wished me from behind me, as she walked passed me with only her rear what was visible to me.
“Thank you Dorothy…” I responded to her but really wanted to see her face, face for no other reason other than see the expression she carry’s, I do believe that’s the only way one can know what is actually in the heart showing how one actually feels about me and my success.
“So I guess, supervision job is actually more than what it seems to the eyes.” I mentioned chuckling, but yeah, the main aim for that statement was achieved as she had a brief stop and a quick sway of her face behind, giving me a glimpse of her face.
Well, Dorothy was obviously not happy about what I just achieved. She wore the anger and frustration like a Halloween mask. ‘Ohhhh, that’s what I expected to see on Sam’s face from the very beginning, but he deprived me off that satisfaction. Well right now, it doesn’t matter where I got my satisfaction from, the main point is that, I got what I was looking.
She quickly turned into the office area, I stood there for some time with the bulletproof vest dangling from my left hand. I wondered how she and Sam came in almost together at the same time. My joy at that moment didn’t give me room to have so much time to duel on that thoughts and in a flash of moments, my thoughts swing to my father, making me begin to wonder the joy and how proud he will be for me to finally record a success in this line of job. I still had that thoughts in my mind as I walked into the armory to relieve myself of the arms I have on me.
‘Come to think of it…’ I thought to myself, I kind of like the way I look in the ‘war outfit’ and honestly I want to relieve the scenes of that raid, the blows by captain James that knocked down that guy and the door burst by Harry, oh it was really very nice. I wished I could do that at least once a month, and of course it should come with the type of success, this one came with. I wonder how the scene was like at the deck, Douglas and his team are not here yet to tell the story of what went down there.
Immediately I got to the armory, Harry was the first person I saw and he raised both thumbs to me, gesturing a good job to me, and before I could say Jack, a clap came from behind me, it was captain James, and following suit, all the men in the armory began to clap also, the feeling there was very dramatic to me, it was all new to me and I just could not figure out the expression I should have. While the clap were becoming louder, Captain James raised his hands up with his palms facing down trying to calm and have a decorum in the room.
“Honestly, I have never been to a burst that was this easy…” Captain James began immediately he got a decorum, but that statement was followed with a roar and loud claps, he raised his hands again to make the guys maintain the decorum. Before he could say anything further, Douglas and his own team to came in and he signaled me out of the room. I wondered why he will be calling me out of that place in such atmosphere.
As I strolled out of the armory still having most of my weapons on me, I dropped the bulletproof vest and badge out with him.
