/HANNAH’S POV/
The meal was quite good, but I can’t say I enjoyed it, all my thoughts were on the case that brought me to their house in the first place. Douglas’s wife tried so much to engage me in a conversation, but I was always absent minded, the one that was able to get a bit of my attention was when she asked about children.
“What about you Hannah, what do you think about children?” what actually brought me back from my long deep thought was my name that she mentioned, I can’t even say I know what the discussion was about all along before it lead to the issue of children.
“Children…?” I rhetorically asked after recovering back to the presence.
“Yeah children…” she responded while she scoop a spoon of soup into her mouth, before she continued.
“Would you like to have your own kids?” she presented the question in a more straight way.
“Oh yeah, I would love that someday…” I replied wiping of my mouth with the napkin.
“But honestly, I can’t really say I am ready at the moment.” I said with a chuckle trying to look interested in the discussion.
“Why do you say so?” she asked with her eyes wide open with surprise.
“Well, that’s the last think I would have thought about before going to bed tonight, I don’t think I ever think about that” I said, though I know I sounded stupid. Mrs Hendon could not hide her amazement as she was just looking at me. I was short of words and didn’t know what else to say to make sense to her.
“Well Beatrice, we all have a different perception of the world and also our priorities and life goals differs at different times.” Douglas came to my rescue seeing how helpless I was after pinning myself down in a tight corner.
“Yeah, I understand that…” she stated as she was trying to say more but Douglas had to stop her.
“Then you should know better than making people feel bad when they are not having same views with you” he cut her in middle of her sentence sensing I was not comfortable already.
“Okay… I heard you.” She said not wanting to go further with the discussion.
The both continued with their discussion, and I was drawn away immediately as I began to reminisce on my own childhood, there were good memories actually, but noting special to really encourage me wanting my own child or children. Father Is always away, mother is always at home trying to make you be what she wants rather than let you explore the world as you deem fit.
At a time I kinda admired the kind of relationship between them as a couple, though I don’t really know about their other life, but what I am seeing at this point on this table, is a lovely couple who understand each other to the molecular bits. Their laughs always rhymed, they are always ending sentences for one another and so many other lovely characteristics they are exhibiting right now that makes me see them as a dream couple.
“If Hannah doesn’t have children on your mind at the moment, she should at least have a man in her life.” Mrs Hendon said as she cleared the last portions of food on her plate, again the mention of my name brought me back to the dinning.
“Come on, I bet she is dealing with men, not just a man” Douglas responded to her question with a sarcastic comment. I forced a smile on my face as I adjusted my hair to stick behind my ear.
“No, she doesn’t look like one who will be keeping multiple men in her life.” His wife responded looking at me directly waiting for me to say something.
“Well….” I said slowly as I was confused on what to say, I in no way want to sound like I sounded on the child subject and also I didn’t want to over express what I have going on. Yeah, it’s true have got a man, but I can’t really give what’s going on between kelvin and I a name at the moment.
“Yeeesss…?” Mrs Douglas said centring all her attentions on me waiting for a comment on the subject matter she just raised.
“I am not dealing with allot of guys like he said, I don’t really have that time for so many socializing…” I was still saying when I already saw the disappointment on the face of both Douglas and his wife, I could understand the reason for but disappointments, but I had to quickly clear the air on something especially in the case of Mrs Hendon.
“But…” I quickly added raising a finger up to further get their attention.
“There is a man, just that we haven’t really officiated our intentions yet.” I said and took a pause after I was satisfied to have gained the admiration of Beatrice.
“So what are you guys still doing, still at the chatting stage or just fucking.” She said as she raised up to begin clearing the table after realising that I wasn’t going to finish up the food still left in my plate.
“Well, I will rather say we are still in the vibing stage.” I said getting up to assist her with the table clearing.
“Oh really, well, if you vibing well and he seems responsible, try to hook him up immediately. The good ones are very rare” she said as I followed her to the kitchen.
“You should just leave it over there, I will do the dishes, at least that gives you guys the needed time and privacy for what actually brought you”. She said while I gladly washed my hands and exit the kitchen.
“So Hannah, what’s this very good Intel or information you said you’ve gotten”. Douglas said to me as he moved to the living area.
“On getting to the dock on my first visit, I created acquaintance with this guy that is willing to help me in exchange for me to assist him into the agency.” I stated as I watched Douglas took his seat on one of the single sitter couch with a small tea table in the centre beside the low window.
“Oh, that’s very rare to hear, most of the C.I have worked with just wants money or are trying to ruin the person they are snitching on.” He said as ushered me to the other couch across the table.
“Yes sir, though he wants money also, but that was his main request.” I said in addition to what he just said.
“So what do you have?” he asked
“He has helped me recorded some of their conversations where they made their plots and plans.” I mentioned as I removed my phone from the pockets of my denim pants.
“Have also got pictures of the main actors in this plot and also I traced the addresses mentioned in their conversation, there I saw one of the guys and also I think there I something more to the newly opened chines shop had seen the guy. I have a strong instinct that’s where the main deal is.”
“Okay, enough of all you briefing, let me see evidence and lets get to work…” Douglas said as he brought out a laptop from under the table ready to work.
