/KELVIN’S POV/
I walked into the club quite earlier than I personally expected to be at there, I walked to the bar for a drink, Loren never disappoints with his taunts.
“Welcome boss…” he greeted as he passed some guests there cocktails, obviously they were a group of friends out for a weekend breeze. It was a Saturday, so the crowd was expected especially groups of colleague coming from work to celebrate the a win over the week or something or something of that sort.
“I see you are becoming to take charge of the bar counter perfectly…” I commended him as he go about his job attending other guests.
“What… what do you mean boss?” he said with little splutters as he was still busy.
“I mean, look at you, you are now the one making and giving out magic here at the bar.” I taunted him pointing at the ladies just stepping away from the bar all smiling with glasses in their hands.
“Come on man… this is nothing but normal for end of the week business” he said in his defence.
“Well, I think the brunette has a different opinion” using my eyes to gesture at the one of the ladies who quickly took her eyes off his direction as she sensed he was about to notice her stealing a gaze at him.
“Oh no…. she shouldn’t be looking at me like that” he disgustingly waved her off.
“Why…?” I was shocked.
“Have go taste boss…” he said trying to maintain a volume other people close by won’t get to hear and understand our discussions.
“Taste…?” I blotted out with a chuckle.
“Yeah man…. Have got standards and she obviously doesn’t meet those standards in any way.” He arrogantly said, making the black dude sitting at the counter chuckled as he sips from his glass.
“Alright… alright … I get you… I get your point.” I succumbed to his denial raising my hands above my shoulder in surrender.
“But you can’t blame her…” I quickly added.
“Who is to be blamed?” he questioned as he rested both his hands on the counter and relaxed on them both with a keen straight look at me.
“Did you really not looked at yourself in the mirror before leaving home today?” I questioned him hysterically laughing.
“What do you mean?” another question from him as he shifted his attention to respond to a guest who just stood at the counter.
“The way you modelled in this white office t-shirt makes you what every woman craves for.” I indirectly complimented his look which was obviously a new fashion approach from Loren. He laughed out loud as he passed the drink to the guest he was attending to.
“Let me get you your drink” he announced still laughing out loud as he turned to get a glass from the shelf beneath the counter.
“That will be great man” I said in appreciation, bringing out my phone, I just got a vibration notification from it, and it was the consultant from the construction firm that texted me, notifying me about his presence in the club. I quickly texted him back telling him to come meet me at the bar and I looked around immediately after sending the text to him.
“Hey…” I called out waving my hand at a guy I saw oddly standing with an office cross bag, obviously he doesn’t look like he is here for pleasure.
“Good day Mr Kelvin” he greeted as he quickly grabbed a stool joining me at the bar counter.
“Would you like something to drink?” I enquired.
“I don’t mind a very chill beer” he said smiling.
“A bottle of chill beer please.” I gestured towards Loren.
He took me round the virtual building designs on his tablet and showed while I explained to him what I want to add to the building and how I expect to look, within thirty minutes we had both understood one another, made rounds to go see the actual spot remodelling will be taking place and come to terms with all details involved and he was on his way.
I stood at the balcony watching the inflow and outflow of guests and also the organisation and due diligence of the staffs, my favourite spot since I began to take my managerial role more seriously. After a while just at a time you will call the peak of the night, the prime time of Friday nights, I noticed the high flux of guests waiting to be attended to at the bar.
“I noticed you need some help around here.” I said to him settling myself in and ready to take orders and serve.
“I need allot of help” he responded unable to hide how glad he was. Aside the fact that he couldn’t handle the large number of guests before him, he has always shown too actually love serving together with me at the bar.
“You know, you never really gave me a full gist on what happened between you and you old school friend who came in the other day”. He began, obviously small talks are one of the reasons he likes to have me with him at the bar.
“Well, there is nothing to tell about her because as of this morning, she is old news.” Loren stood transfixed for a moment as he looked at me in confusion.
“You mean to say, you’ve already…” he stopped and winked at me before he continued again.
“…just within a matter of three days…. What?” he stopped again looking at me with an ohhhh expression.
“… Actually, less than three days.” He burst out laughing.
“Are you monitoring me Loren…?” I asked him with a frown on my face.
“What are you… my mother?” I quickly added, but this time with a smile on my face.
“Oh no, I am neither of those.” He said as he bent down to pick up a cup.
“Actually at first, I thought I was your mentor in this game, but obviously you were only having your game in reserve and now you’ve got it on the court.” He said teasingly.
“Well, I won’t really call you my mentor actually.” I pointed out.
“Then what will you call me…?” he enquired.
“I will say you are my hype man or in a more respectful way, I would say my motivator.” I declared to him making him grin with all his teeth flashing out.
“I will agree to that…” he said still having his teeth flashing out as he pointed at me with a finger in a hommie manner.
I was still in the celebration mood with Loren when I sighted Janice stepping into the club and I was wowed, I wasn’t surprised I saw her there at that time. At first I wanted to go hide, but then I thought…
‘What am I running and hiding for?’ I asked myself standing firmly.
As she approached the bar which is a probably the spot most people come to at first whenever they come into the club, as she pushed through the pool of people, it was as if she was called, her eyes rose and even in the deem lights, we both had our eyes transfixed and again for the first time in weeks I got my timid cold feet around ladies again, maybe it was because of the way we handled each other earlier that day, she was a lioness on bed as even though I tried my best to make her tap out quite a number of time, she was very hard and wanted it quite rough and way to fast at all instance.
“Daiquiri…” she ordered but as a bad girl that she is, she ordered from Loren, intentionally ignoring me.
“Banana or Hemingway?” he asked her.
“Really… daiquiri has different flavor, what’s the different between the both of them?” she enquired trying to look straight but was actually stealing seductive looks at me.
“Banana Daiquiri is blended with ripe banana, dark rum, and fresh lime. It tastes a little sweeter compared to your strawberry daiquiri which is the conventional daiquiri I guess you are familiar with.” Loren gave a very sound and intelligent response I did not expect from him, I won’t deny I was amazed by what I here and was eager to hear the rest of his explanations.
“Okay…?” Janice had responded with a nod showing she was also impressed by the way he composed himself and showed he really knows what he is doing.
‘Is Loren trying to flirt with Janice? Maybe she meets his taste and standards’ I thought to myself completely loosing concentration on what I was doing.
“While the Hemingway Daiquiri is made from grape juices instead of fresh strawberry mixed with fresh lime and Maraschino liqueur, I will suggest you take the Hemingway for a start, probably you try the other next time you here…” Loren suggested as he already proceed to make the drink for her.
“Okay… I might even try the other on tonight before leaving.” She agreed to his suggestion enthusiastically.
I try not to care about the fact that she was pretending not to know me from before or even worse not acknowledging that I was standing there at all in the first place. She was so enjoying herself, obviously she was flirting with Loren to spite me and innocent Loren was falling for it, the way he kept smiling and blushing coupled with flexing his muscles was evident that he is getting the wrong message.
‘Or maybe the right message but it’s a big sham and scam.” I thought to myself suppressing a laugh into a smile with a hand cupping on my mouth and pretend to cough. Well that cough turned out to be real in the next minute.
I took a sip from a glass of soda I kept the side and my attention was called upon from the crowd of people dancing and chilling in the club floor.
“Kelvin…!” I heard my name with the figure calling the name raisin her hand in a wave.
“What the f**k?” I choked on the drink and breezed out some of it from my mouth.
“What’s wrong boss?” Loren had called out.
“Yeah, never mind, I rushed the drink down my thought” I said to him, I mean what should I tell him, he might have known about Sandra from the start, but of course, he has no idea about Janice.
Oh Yeah Sandra is the lady who just came in and shouted my name.
