I waited for hours. My face pressed to the cool glass of my window, like some desperate, lovesick teenager waiting for a boy I barely knew—except Silas wasn’t just a boy. He was… everything. My dreams. My shadow. The silent presence that had haunted me since my existence without a single word.
I waited until my eyes started burning. I thought maybe I will just close my eyes for a minute. It was all it took for my traitorous body to pull me under.
I woke up to furious sunlight slicing through the curtains and an even more furious self. “I fell asleep!” I groaned, flopping back on the bed. “I literally missed the chance to talk to my mate—”
Chandra: You really need to stop beating yourself up, girl. Yesterday was heavy. Even queens need rest.
“Don’t queen me,” I muttered. “I’m a disaster.”
Chandra: A tired disaster who danced with her mate while glowing like a moonlit goddess. She paused. You deserve one break, Mira.
I sighed, accepting defeat—not gracefully, but accepting it.
DanPa had already left for the office when I reached the corridor. The sharp scent of his stress lingered in the air. This can’t be good. Maybe I will visit him after breakfast.
Lily met me at the staircase with two coffee mugs and a breakfast tray balanced on her hip. “Well?” she asked immediately. “Did you talk to him?”
I fumbled with the plate. “I fell asleep.”
“Oh, honey.” Lily sighed, looping her arm through mine. “You’ve been walking in circles all night in your head, haven’t you?”
Chandra: More like pacing in squares.
I snorted. Out loud.
Lily raised an eyebrow.
“It’s Chandra,” I explained quickly.
“Ah. Wolf sarcasm. Perfect start to the day.” Lily replied
DanPa’s Office
DanPa looked like he’d aged five more years overnight. His fingers were steepled, jaw tight.
“Morning, Mira,” he said, voice strained. “You’re going to the studio?”
“Yes. But… are you okay?”
He hesitated. That scared me more than a rogue attack.
“Mira, something isn’t right. I’ll explain everything tonight. I need you at the meeting with Vampire king Silas.” He added with a smile, “You always see patterns others miss.” I smiled and nodded.
But then, his eyes hardened “Mira, be home before dark. No arguments.”
My stomach dropped. “Yes, DanPa.”
Chandra: He’s worried. Really worried.
“Yeah,” I whispered internally. “I know.”
The Studio
Pioneer Square greeted me like an old friend—brick walls, rusted iron, and that 1800s charm I always adored. My 2-floor tattoo studio sat in Romanesque Revival building that still smelled faintly of old books and rain. I just loved this place.
I was flipping through the appointments when the door creaked and a breeze rolled in—cool, salty, bright, citrusy – my favourite smell – Ocean Breeze.
My breath stopped.
Chandra: Mate.
Her voice was reverent, breathless. Oh, thank the Moon.
I turned. Silas stood in the doorway like he’d stepped out of a high-end magazine shoot—tailored Kiton suit, dark hair gleaming, those molten eyes taking in every corner of my shop. My heart did a violent somersault and I felt nervous, what will he think of my place. This is the maximum me anyone could ever see anywhere.
He stopped near the photo wall of my studio where almost all the designs that I have ever made had a place in form of a picture. Then he looked at me and smiled – “You have a very beautiful place here.”
I released my breath I didn’t know I was holding. His acceptance meant the world to me, I smiled and said a meek – Thank You. God he is beautiful.
As if he could hear my thoughts, his eyes turned back to me. A small smirk playing on his lips and eyes twinkling with mischief. He walked toward me with fluid grace and extended his hand. I placed mine in his without thinking — my instincts were faster than my brain — and he lifted it…… and kissed the back of my hand.
It wasn’t a short innocent kiss like yesterday in front of DanPa. No, it was a lingering, slopy, open mouth kiss on the back of my right hand that sent a bolt of fire straight between my legs. and released a 1000 butterflies in my stomach. All I could do was watch him breathlessly.
Chandra: Oh. Oh. Bite me. Or him. Or both. I don’t care—just do something.
“Silas,” I whispered, voice embarrassingly shaky.
His eyes glinted. “Good morning, my Mira.”
“I—uh—what are you doing here?”
He tilted his head slightly. “You wanted to ask me something last night.
I came so you could ask.”
Butterflies. Everywhere. My bloodstream was ninety percent butterflies.
But then I panicked. My studio has a big window from where direct sunrays were pouring in. “Wait—it’s daytime. The sun. Are you hurt? Are you burned?”
His smile softened. “Royal vampires are resistant. Sunlight doesn’t harm us.”
“Oh!” I murmured. “That’s convenient”
The smile faded just a touch—sadness flickering under those warm eyes. “It used to be our birthright, just like all supernatural” he said quietly. “All vampires regained sunlight as they aged - Solar Ascension. But after the Accord… the gift stopped manifesting.”
My heart twisted “I’m sorry, Silas.”
He nodded with a tight smile, “We adapted, but I am trying to find a solution.”
We stood there in silence staring in each other’s eyes. My heart started hammering with all the heat. I averted my gaze. “Mira,” he murmured, voice deep velvet, “do you know who I am?”
“Yes. The Vampire King Silas Nightbourne.”
He snorted and took a step towards me invading not only my personal space but all my senses with his smell and warmth. He asked in a whisper – Am I just the Vampire king for you Mira?
My breath hitched, he knows. I admitted – You are my mate.
His eyes darkened with something ancient and possessive. “Not just mate, Mira,” he growled softly. “We are Destiny Blood Bond mates.”
I froze. He continued, voice rough with centuries of longing—
“We have been connected through time and births. Every time life resets, every time fate reshuffles its cards— you choose me and I find you. In every universe you are mine. We always return to each other.”
He stroked his thumb over my knuckles.
““Since the time you were born I have been seeing your beautiful eyes in my dreams. I have seen all your innocence of being an infant and toddler, the curiosity of a toddler, the pain of loosing your mother, the mischief, love and now the passion that your eyes convey. I feel like I have been part of your entire life. I have lived your life through those eyes. You were the only thread that kept my sanity intact.”
Tears blurred my vision. He cupped my face and added “Now that I have found you I know it will be very difficult now to breathe without you and your mouthwatering scent.”
Chandra: He found us, He found us Mira. Her voice shook. He never stopped looking.
His sweet confession brought tears in my eyes. I just couldn’t speak just nod. A lone tear escaped my eyes. Silas brushed the tear away, touching his forehead to mine.
