12.SilasDestiny Blood Bond

We broke for the night. The meeting room slowly emptied, the weight of revelations lingering like ash in the air. Mira stood across the room, her arms folded loosely, eyes thoughtful—too thoughtful for someone who had just learned she was standing at the center of something ancient and dangerous. I wanted to cross the room. To pull her into my arms. To remind myself she was real and safe. But I didn’t. Because kings didn’t always get what they wanted. And mates—especially forbidden ones—had to be protected before they could be claimed. I realized too late that I didn’t even have her number. So instead, I handed my card to Alpha Daniel. “If you need me,” I said evenly, “please feel free to call, any time.” Then I let my gaze flick to Mira—just once. I wanted to let her know that This is for you. But she caught it. Her lips curved, just slightly and so did Alpha Daniel. Less than an hour later, my phone vibrated. Mira: 😄 You know you were about as subtle as a train wreck, right? A grin split my face before I could stop it. Andreas glanced up from sharpening a blade. “Oh no. That look means she texted.” I just shrugged, “She did,” I said. He groaned dramatically. “Fantastic. The King has officially entered the texting phase.” I typed back. Silas: I’ll take that as a good sign. Less things to explain later to your DanPa. The reply was instant. Mira: When do you even sleep if you’re patrolling all night and meeting me during the day? I chuckled. Silas: I don’t need sleep. Two to three hours of rest is more than enough. Mira: Show-off. Silas: I’ll come by your studio around 11 am. Btw, I like the nam Moonspell Ink. Three dots appeared. Disappeared. Appeared again. Mira: Okay. Try not to overthrow anything before then. Andreas leaned over. “She’s adorable.” “She is,” I said quietly. Seattle – After Midnight The city hummed differently around midnight, it was less noisy, more truth. We parked near Pike Place. We found the scent almost immediately and followed it to an alley. A new vampire was huddled in a corner with wild eyes, blackened veins and bloodlust rolling off him in waves. He was hungry but scared. Maybe the last of humanity still lingered and stopping himself just yet to do something drastic. I felt sorry for him. It took us just seconds to subdue him with hypnosis. Andreas took an empty beer bottle from the trash in the alley and supported the new vampire with his shoulder and started dragging him. When I arched my eyebrow he simply shrugged, “for anyone looking it will appear as if we drank too much.” Minutes later, we delivered him to Cassian’s jazz club — Neumos, nestled in Capitol Hill, where time seemed to slow under velvet lighting and low brass notes. Cassian greeted us with a grim nod. “Seems like, you have also been busy tonight.” “You caught one too?” Andreas observed. Cassian nodded. “Newly turned. She is confused. We’ll guide them all through the transition.” I nodded gratefully “Thank you Cassian, I know it would not be easy, but if anyone can handle it, it would be you.” He smiled and gestured to a side room. “Human pets are available if you want to feed. They are all informed, NDA signed and willing.” Andreas smirked. “I’ll take one.” “I’ll pass,” I said, accepting a glass of blood wine instead and moves towards the balcony. The city below was still wrapped in shadows, jazz humming faintly from the club. He didn’t waste time “Sooo, you bowed to her,” Cassian said calmly. I didn’t turn. “I did.” Cassian leaned against the stone railing, eyes sharp but curious. “You don’t bow. Not to Alphas. Not to Kings. Not even to me and I am the oldest Vampire alive.” he paused, “So I’ll ask plainly Silas, Who is Mira?” Before I could answer, Andreas sighed theatrically. “Well, this is it,” he said. “The moment the Vampire Lord realizes our King has fallen. Should we play ominous background music?” “Quiet,” Cassian said sharply with a tone a parent only can use on their kids. I smirked and turned meeting Cassian’s gaze “She is my Destiny Blood Bond.” The words landed heavy. Cassian’s expression didn’t change—but the air around him did. His magic stirred, instinctively, like a predator recognizing something rare. “That bond is myth,” he said slowly. “Older than the Accord. Older than recorded law.” “And yet,” I replied, “it exists.” Andreas folded his arms. “Trust me, we checked. Twice. He got all poetic about it.” Cassian’s eyes narrowed—not in disbelief, but in understanding. “That explains the deference. The restraint you are showing and the look in your eyes when she speaks.” I didn’t deny it and Andreas grinned. “He is celibate. Blood-averse, since 1990.” “She is not just my mate,” I continued quietly. “She is my constant across lives and time.” A sighed. “And because of that she is in constant danger.” Cassian straightened fully now. “You want my silence.” “I want your discretion Cassian, for now at least.” I corrected. “Until we understand who is moving against us.” Andreas leaned closer to Cassian. “Also, until he figures out how to function like a rational immortal again.” Cassian ignored him. “If the Fairy Court learns of this bond—” Cassian began. “They won’t,” I said firmly. “Not from you.” Cassian studied me for a long moment. Then he inclined his head—just slightly. “Your secret is safe,” he said. “With one condition.” I waited. “If she is truly what you say,” Cassian continued, “then when the world fractures—and it will—I expect to be standing on the right side of history.” A faint smile touched my lips. “You have been with my father. After he passed you have been a constant support in my life too. You know I value you like family. You already are in the right side, my Friend.” Andreas clapped once. “Beautiful. Truly. Now can we all agree not to tell the universe yet? I’m not emotionally prepared for interspecies chaos before noon.” Cassian’s mouth curved faintly. “You never are.” He pointed to my empty glass “Want another?” I shaked my head and handed over the glass to him. Andreas leaned closer. “So tell me, my King—finally ready to drink from Mira and break your celibacy.. ” I cut him mid-sentence - “Finish that sentence,” I added calmly, “and I will end you.” Cassian chuckled softly. “Ah. Destiny bonds.” Andreas said grinning “Just so you know, the image of you bowing, will live rent-free in my head forever.” I didn’t bother correcting him. Because some truths didn’t need defending and Mira…was one of them.
