Bad Day Becoming Worse

Tuckers POV Once Doc leaves Alpha Jones’ office I head for the door. “Tucker, where are you going?” Alpha Jones asks. “I was fixing to head to the hospital to check on Ashlynn. I replied already dreading where this is heading. “Have a seat son, it seems like we have some things to really talk about before you go see your family.” Alpha states. I really want to go to the hospital to see Ash and tell Kayla good morning. I haven’t missed a morning other than this past week since we found out she was coming. I groan but turn around taking a seat. “What do you make of this recording? Alpha Jones asks. “It sounds like someone set Ash up and knew exactly what to say to get on doc’s good side.” I replied looking lost. “That’s true but did you pay attention to it?” Alpha Jones asks me. “I listened to the words that were said, but couldn’t make out the voice.” Now I’m more engrossed in this conversation. “That’s my Alpha in training! The voice has been altered. Also the caller was really nervous, showing that they thought their plan was going to fail. They were also in a hurry to get off the phone, so they were afraid of getting caught. This person might be close to Ashlynn, or have a grudge against her. Whoever this person is, they just put her life in even more danger by letting the rogues know about Kayla.” Alpha Jones stated. “This is bad, no-one was supposed to know about her but a select few. I haven’t even told Christa about how special she truly is. Who would do this to an innocent baby? This makes no sense to me.” I stated frustratedly. “There’s a lot of people who wouldn’t want a child to come into the world. Someone who’s jealous, angry, disappointed, sad. Well you get my point the list goes on. So what do you think we should do now?” Alpha Jones asks. I don’t have to think long before I mindlink Brendan asking him to meet me and his dad. When he gets to the door his dad tells him to enter. "Hey buddy what's going on?" Brendan asks. Do you still have that buddy that can do voice analytics?" I ask hoping that he does. "Sure, I just talked to him the other day. Did you find something about Ashlynn's case that you couldn't figure out?" He replied. " Brent, sorry, that still feels too weird. Alpha could you please play your son the recording? He only takes this guy, the serious stuff." Sure and it's ok old habits die hard. Alpha says chuckling. Brendan listens carefully. Watching his face morph with emotions is kind of funny. Don't get me wrong I can make some weird faces but Brendan goes all out. Once the recording is finished Brendan calls his friend asking for a meet up. They set the time for tomorrow morning at 9. We watch Alpha Jones lock it behind his picture in the safe. We left the office, I watched as Alpha Jones locked it up then we all headed to the dining area. I grabbed some food for me and Ash, said goodbye to Alpha Jones and Brendan then headed to the hospital. I decided to walk back to the hospital since it’s just five minutes away. I was stopped by Gabe asking me to come with him stating it would only take ten minutes. “I would help bud, but I’m headed to the hospital. I’m taking Ashlynn some food and really just want to check-up on her to see how she’s doing.” I replied hoping he’d let me just go. “Please bud, I promise it won’t take too long plus I heard she found her mate, he's probably with her now. You might want to give her some space to get to know him a little better.” Gabe said. Thinking he might be right, I agreed and followed him. We went towards his house where he asked me to pass some shingles up to him so he could fix his roof. “Let me go put my food up, then I’ll be right back.” I replied headed to the kitchen. Putting the plates in the fridge I grabbed us a soda then went back outside. Handing Gabe his I took a big swig before grabbing a stack of shingles and heading up the ladder. Once Gabe finished his drink he came up with another stack, I headed back down for more. When all twenty stacks were up I looked to Gabe who had a lost look on his face. “What’s wrong my friend? Why do you look like you have no clue where to go from here? I asked hoping my intuition was completely wrong. “Well… your gut might be right. There’s a leak in the roof above my bedroom and the kitchen. My dad’s been riding my as* to get it fixed. I don’t know anything about roofing.” He calmly stated with a pitiful look on his face. “Did it ever occur to you to call a roofer to come help you?” I asked, knowing where this conversation is probably heading. I was dreading his next statement but knew in my gut this was coming. “Naw man you know my dad. He’s the biggest cheapskate I know of. The most I could get him to pay for was the shingles that he’s wanting me to put down.” Gabe said while he was scratching the back of his head. “Ugh you said ten minutes tops. Not all morning, I really wanted to go to the hospital to see Ash. Tell you what let me go over there and check up on her. Then we’ll go to the hardware store. We’re going to need tarps, and tar. Might pick up a new water hose as well since I know yours is older than us. Why did you have to rope me into this situation?” I groaned out. “Really, man that’s awesome, I can’t thank you enough. You are the best brother from another mother that any guy could ask for. Tell me anything you want and I’ll get it for you. You know I can. Gabe started rambling on and on. “Bro relax, but there is something you could do for me. Ashlynn’s attack was planned. There’s a phone with conversations where the caller used a voice modifier in Alphas office. Brendon is going to his guy to decipher it tomorrow, maybe you could tag along and help decode it for me.” I asked knowing he’s a computer whiz. “Sure thing bro, I go look for B while you head to the hospital. Let me know how Ash is doing when you get back.” Gabe replied. “Will do brother. I will call you when I’m leaving the hospital so we can head to the hardware store. I told him. I quickly climbed down the ladder, went into the kitchen, heated up our food, then took off headed towards the hospital. I couldn’t wait to talk to Kayla and tell her how much I loved her. I know I’m being kind of sappy but I love my little girl so much. Upon arriving at the hospital I greeted the receptionists, then went straight to Ashes room. Once I got close I could smell her parents along with Grey. I’m not judging the guy. I don’t even know him, but I don’t think I’m ready to co-parent with him just yet. When I was about to open the door I heard Ashlynn’s dad asking where I was during this whole mess. I couldn’t help but think ‘trying to rescue her.’ Trent got really angry when her dad told her to get rid of Kayla. I was glad when she told him not to come around until after Kayla was born. I know I should have walked away by this point, but Trent kept telling me to wait. I might hear something important. Boy, did I ever. Her dad was setting up a marriage for her and Grey without even meeting his parents, Alpha, or even any of his other family. What's worse he wanted her to move to his pack and let him claim Kayla as his own. I can’t lie and say that didn’t hurt. It felt like someone ripped my heart out of my chest. How could she let someone else claim my daughter? Have I not been good enough for both of them? She did protest against a quick wedding but that’s not what I wanted to hear. I was lost in my thought’s for a moment. When I looked up I locked eyes with Ash. I know my pain was showing so I turned around a left, throwing our breakfast away as I went. On my way out of the hospital I was about to call Gabe, when Christa called asking if I’d take her to the store to grab some groceries for her mom who has gotten sicker. “Yeah I’ll be there in twenty, I also need to head to the hardware store so I can pick some stuff up for Gabe.” I told her. I shot a quick text to Gabe letting him know that I’m running to the store with Christa then I’d run by the hardware store. His reply came back fast. Sure you are, you lucky guy flaunting your new mate in your single friend's face. Just wait till I find my mate, I will be ten times worse than you are right now. I just laughed put my phone in my pocket then went to get my car. The drive to Christa didn’t take long. She was visiting one of her friends here in the pack. “Hey babe how’s your day going?” I asked while reversing out of the driveway. “It just got better.” She replied looking at me, giving me a wink. “Why’s that?” I asked, knowing what she was going to say. “Oh I don't know. Maybe because this really hot guy just picked me up, Making me feel like I’m cheating on my mate. She said with a big smile trying to gauge my reaction. “Maybe your mate is a worthless a**hole who you should reject and get with the hot guy who just picked you up.” I replied, winking at her. She busted out laughing, and I couldn’t help laughing too. “So are you going to need a ride home?” I asked hoping she’d say no so that I could go help Gabe then maybe get in some time to go to the hospital to see Ashlynn and Kayla. “No, my dad is on his way and will get here about the time we get done. I just wanted some time with you so I’m glad that you agreed to pick me up.” She replied. I was thankful for that. It’s not like I mind spending time with her. I just missed Ash and Kayla this past week. I pulled into the store and found a parking spot. We walked in holding hands which in all honesty felt weird, We’ve never held hands like that before. She started checking her list then walked down the coffee aisle. Suddenly I get a mind- link from Kayla asking where I was. I couldn’t stop the goofy grin that appeared on my face. I told her I was shopping with Christa, her tone changed, that's weird I thought. What happened next totally shocked me. I went to tell her I loved her too, but she blocked me. Kayla’s never blocked me from her. I couldn’t figure out what I did wrong. Did I say the wrong thing? Does she even think I don’t love her? My thoughts were going haywire. I came to when Christa wrapped her arm around me. “What’s wrong Babe? You looked lost.” She said, concern laced her voice. “Oh nothing, just Gabe asking how much longer I’m going to be. His dads really riding him to get the roof done. “I replied not wanting her to know I’m hurting from what Kayla just did. I look up and see her dad heading towards us. “There’s your dad, I’ll see you later. Call me when you get home and let me know how your mom’s doing.” I said, placing a quick kiss on her cheek. I nodded to her dad then rushed out of the store.
