Derrick
He's testing my patience; he should be home by now. He said two hours and it's been two hours and three minutes. I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt but I'm two seconds away from going to get his ass. The door opens and he strolls in grinning. "Where have you been?" I question as he strips down to his boxers.
"I'm not late," he asserts straddling my lap.
I take a moment to calm down. There's no way in hell he could be that dumb. He's an i***t but surely he couldn't be that big of an i***t. He knows the repercussion of his actions so I know he wouldn't dare test it or be so damn selfish.
"Why does your breath smell like beer?" I inquire as calmly as possible.
He diverts his eyesight and I know my answer. I push him off of me knowing that if I don't leave now I might do or say something I regret. If I'm around him any longer surly it'll cause a bigger fight than what's needed at this point in time.
"Derrick don't be mad I had to" he whines. "Where are you going?" he asks once he notices me putting on clothes.
I walk out not bothering to answer him. I can't even trust him to take care of our pup. I let him go out with his damn friend without me and this is what he does. He knows he shouldn't drink yet he did it anyway. What the f**k does he mean he had to? I'm sure nobody held his mouth open and forced him to drink alcohol. He's a grown f*****g man, not a little ass boy. Instead of making excuses for his behavior he could've at least admitted that he made a mistake. And if he's that easily manipulated there's a bigger issue at hand. Hell he could've at least faked it, brushed his teeth or some s**t before coming back to me. I can't begin to describe how angry I actually am with him. To be reckless with his life is one thing but to endanger the life of our pup is another. Walking into my old room everything around me begins to shake. Does he not f*****g care about his health or our pup's? Yet he wonders why I watch him like a hawk. When I don't s**t like this happens.
"What's going on Der?" my mother asks walking in.
Instead of answering her I take a deep breath before giving her my hand. She gasps as she sees the last few hours from my point of view. Once she lets go of my hand I notice she's crying. I instantly get up pulling her into a hug as she cries in my chest. My father rushes into the room clearly sensing something wrong with his mate. I should've known she'd react like this I as just hoping I'd be wrong.
"I'm so sorry" she mumbles in my chest.
"It's okay Ma, it'll be fine."
"It won't be and we both know that."
I sigh not responding. It won't be okay but I can't turn back time. Truth of the matter is I wouldn't want to turn back time if I could. We're going to have a pup and there's going to be a war but it's one I'm willing to fight. Why should I let them control what happens with my family and my life? That's surely no way to live at all. I think deep down she was hoping it wouldn't happen so it wouldn't cause problems. She was happy that Kim couldn't have kids. Out of the three of us she would've had the hardest time dealing with something like this. I think anybody with a past like hers would have a huge problem with carrying a baby. Not to mention she's beyond sensitive about certain situations.
"You have to go back to him" she announces coming out of my chest.
"Yeah I know but not tonight. He was a bigger i***t than usual" I voice.
"You told him to be normal."
"He knew that's not what I meant."
"Okay baby but not too long okay."
"Yeah."
"Goodnight."
"Night."
She walks out my room and my father follows behind. I strip before getting into the bed. Once I'm sure I can see and talk to Kyle without the thought of killing him I'll go back home. Until then I'll stay here with calm nerves.
I walk out the room going to the kitchen. It's been four days since I've last seen my mate. I've never been this angry with him before. It's f*****g killing me to be so far away from him but who knows what I'll do once I'm around him again. "Morning" I grumble to my parents.
"You look like s**t, you need to go home and talk to your mate" my mother snaps glaring at me. Leave it to her not to sugar coat anything.
Before I can take a bite out of my breakfast I'm back in my room at the pack house. I f*****g hate when she does that s**t. In the bed lies the imprint of Kyle's body in the fetal position. He must still be sleep. Soon as I finish the thought he pops up looking pale and sickly. His eyes are bloodshot red and puffy as he stares at me.
"Y-You're here" he stammers.
"Unfortunately" I answer. "have you been eating?" he shakes his head no. "Idiot."
I get into the bed handing him the plate. He pushes my hand away climbing into my lap. "Eat." I shove the plate into his face. He looks at the plate then me. "I'm not going anywhere, f*****g eat!"
He nods before digging into his plate. I hate the fact that I'm beyond pissed at him yet being around him again makes me feel so much better. I blame our bond that gets stronger everyday we're together. Why the f**k would he starve? Did he forget he was eating for two? Apparently I still can't trust him to take care of our pup.
Without you it doesn't matter.
Doesn't matter.
There's a knock on the door and I yell for them to come in. A cart is pushed in by Jess before she nods and walks out. He looks at the cart stocked with food before looking at me. I watch as he pulls the cart closer and begins eating. It's comical watching as he stuffs his face with food. Once he's finished he wipes his mouth before going to the crook of my neck.
"I've missed you so much. I'm sorry" he mumbles.
"Me too."
We need to talk about the pup.
What about?
It's more about you. Warlock kids only take six months to fully develop.
He lifts up looking at me confused. You're kidding right?
No, we need to see my mother.
He nods okay.
I pick up my phone texting my mother. I don't feel like driving nor having Kyle in his wolf form. Hold on and breathe.
Before he can question what I mean we're being teleported. We land in the living room at my mother's house. He looks around confused before looking at my grinning mother. "Hello dear, sorry to startle you. You have a lazy mate" she beams.
"It's okay."
"Well you look like s**t too."
I roll my eyes, lay down and focus on making all three of us invisible.
He nods laying down as my mother moves closer. She leans down to his stomach listening while feeling around. Until he's showing my mother will look after our pup. She's better trained and more powerful. Once he's further along I'll have my doctor look after him. Just for a little of normalcy around other people but I'm sure she'll still be there every step of the way.
For him being only three weeks, the child seems to be developing quicker.
That can't be right.
It is baby, I hear a heartbeat.
What does this mean for my pup?
She sighs, right now it's looking like four months and this baby will be here.
Will he be sick?
I don't know baby but his heartbeat is slow.
What's going on Derrick? Kyle questions.
You can lift it.
He does and my mother walks out sobbing. Why is she crying? What the f**k is going on with my pup Derrick?
I turn him to face me. Before I speak I have to get my own emotions in check. My baby could be premature and sick. How the f**k is that possible? He could die while he's still in Kyle. Who knows what that'll do to Kyle. I can't be forced to choose between him and our pup. Knowing him he'd want me to save the pup instead of him but living without him is like living in eternal darkness. I won't and can't let it happen ever.
Derrick please! Stop blocking me he begs.
The pup has a slow heartbeat and will be premature. Mom's thinking he'll be out in four months. I pause trying to stay controlled. Or worse he might die in the womb.
He stares at me. You're lying, don't lie like that Derrick. That s**t isn't funny.
I wish I was Kyle.
I watch as everything I just told him sets in. He breaks down crying in my chest. I never thought I'd see the day when Kyle cried. Hell I never wanted to see him cry. It's f*****g killing me knowing he's in so much pain. Our first pup might not make it alive. After all the shitty s**t I been through the moon goddess decides I need to go through something else. Hell I've taken everything in stride but this...how can I? Hopefully my mother has a potion, trick, or something to help our pup.
It's my fault. I shouldn't have had that drink. I should've ate more, been more careful. Now the best thing to happen to Derrick and I might not live. He'll hate me forever for being so damn stupid. He doesn't deserve this. Kyle cries harder as his thoughts seep into my head. I pull his head up from my chest looking into his eyes.
This isn't your fault, alright. It'll be okay I promise you.
You can't keep that promise Derrick.
Yes, I can, trust me. I peck his lip softly.
My mother walks into the room sniffling as she sits down next to us. She clears her throat, "I have these pills for the high blood pressure" she hands him a bottle of pills which he takes one quickly. "This should help the heart problem" she hands him a black sports bottle.
He lifts the top smelling it before gagging and closing it back up. Kyle its for the pup's heart problem and the blood pressure meds are prenatal vitamins.
I got that I'm not stupid. It smells like s**t and throw up.
I chuckle shrugging and he he groans before taking a sip. It takes everything in me not to laugh at him. "Drink it twice a day, in the morning and again before you sleep" she advices. "I'll check you out in two weeks.
He nods, "okay thanks Mom."
She nods sobbing again before rushing out the room. He looks at me confused, "did I do something wrong?"
I shake my head, "no she's dealing with some things from her past."
"Is she going to be okay?"
"As much as she can be."
"Ma! We're here!" I hear Kim yell.
"Living room!" I yell.
They walk into the room holding hands. Kim stops in her tracks staring at Kyle. "Babe, what's wrong?" Brent asks concerned. She looks at me staring me in the eyes while I plead with her not to do this to me right now. "Kim!" he yells.
She shakes her head as tears fall from her pretty hazel eyes. I move Kyle over as I approach my sensitive baby sister. She rushes into my arms sobbing uncontrollably. I was hoping to have a little bit of time to break it to her in a better way than this. I knew she'd struggle the most with the fact Kyle's pregnant. Had my mother told me ahead of time I would've asked her to come to the pack house instead. I didn't want her to find out like this or this soon. I thought I'd have more time to think of a way to delicately break the news to her. Brent looks like he's going to blow if she doesn't speak.
Give her a minute. I say to him through the link.
He reluctantly nods. I look as my mother walks in carrying a tray of food and beverages with my father behind her. She eyes us before handing the tray to my father. Suddenly she's crying in my chest too. "Let's give them a moment" my father whispers as a tear finally escapes my eyes.
Derrick.
I'll be fine Kyle, just go with my father.
They walk out the room as I hold onto my lifelines. I place a soft kiss on both of their foreheads. I'm trying to hold everything together as it slowly falls apart right in front of my eyes. It's killing me knowing that my favorite girls are crying for me. Often I wish I could just erase our past from their minds. They would no longer cry for me or anything else. if only I could take their pain away, they would be just as happy about this pup as I am if not more.
"Please stop it Der" Kim sobs out.
"I can't pudge and you know it" I whisper using her childhood nickname.
"Ma!"
"Kimberly, I can't. I'm so sorry" my mother trembles out.
Kim cries harder hitting me in my chest. My mother moves out the embrace knowing how Kim is and how much she needs this. I hold onto her tighter as she continues to hit me crying. "Please!" she yells through her tears.
I hold onto her as she collapses in my arms. I'm not one to cry but watching my number one girl break down in my arms I can't help but to shed a few tears. "It's going to be okay. I promise you" I mumble. She shakes her head as she continues to cry in my arms. "Please pudge, you know what this does to me." She takes a deep breath coming out of my chest. She wipes the tears from my eyes. I watch as he shakes her head before running out crying. "Pudge!" I yell after her.
"Let her deal Der" my mother voices.
"I can't let her go alone."
"You can't always put this family before yourself sweetheart. You have to deal with yourself."
I clench my jaw, "she's more important."
I walk out the room following Kim's scent. If something happened to her it's like something happening to Kyle and our pup. I spent my whole life protecting her from any and everything. As long as I live she'll always be protected even if it means killing myself for her. I have to get to her before she gets to herself.
