Chapter 4 The Hero Rescues the Beauty

1231 Words
In the heart of the crowd stood Landon, his face an unreadable mask. His icy aura created a clear boundary, setting him apart from everyone around him. The young man beside him slapped his thigh in sudden realization, "I remember now! She's the one who slipped away after our car accident and hospital visit! And she's got a tumor in her brain! Who would've thought she'd be the star of this engagement party?" The young man was utterly shocked, his eyes glued to the stage, practically sparkling with excitement. "She's incredible! She brought down the Pierce family's grand event with just a few words! Uncle, this engagement party was totally worth it!" In excitement, he didn't notice Landon's unwavering gaze fixed on Julia. His eyes, deep and intense, were impenetrable, hiding a storm of emotions. On stage, Evan hurried to Julia's side, forcing a strained smile as he pulled her into his arms. "Sorry, everyone. Julia was just playing around, trying to liven things up a bit. Julia, isn't that right?" Evan's words were practically squeezed out through clenched teeth, laced with menace. Julia's expression remained unmoved, her voice steady and unyielding, "I'm not joking." The crowd below erupted into another wave of chaos. Evan's face darkened, and he hissed through gritted teeth, "What kind of madness is this, Julia? Do you really want both families to lose face before you're satisfied?" "I mentioned breaking off the engagement, but no one took it seriously, no one believed me." Julia looked at Evan, her eyes devoid of any extra emotion. "Today's embarrassment for both families is because you insisted on having this engagement party." The Blair family rushed onto the stage to inquire about the situation, just in time to hear Julia's words. Ruth yanked Julia aside. "Are you crazy? There's a limit to losing your temper! Hurry and explain to everyone!" "I've already spelled it out." Julia was growing impatient. 'Can't these people understand plain words?' "How many times do I have to say the engagement is off before you get it?" "Do you really think marriage is a game? You were the one who wanted to marry Evan in the first place. Now that you've got your wish, you want to call it off. Julia, how old are you? How can you be so immature?" Chandler, losing his patience, pressed down on Julia's head, forcing her to bow and apologize to the guests. "We're truly sorry. We've spoiled her too much, and today we've made a fool of ourselves. The engagement party will continue. Please enjoy the food and drinks..." To everyone's surprise, Julia transformed, fiercely breaking free from his grip. "I said..." "Smack!" A resounding slap cracked across Julia's face, abruptly silencing her. Chandler seethed with anger, "Stop making a fool out of me!" Julia's heart plummeted into an abyss. She glanced around at the crowd, her smile growing more bitter by the second, like a leaf quivering in the wind, poised to drop at any moment. Meanwhile, Evan stood by, watching, waiting for Julia to regret her actions. "You push someone to the edge and then blame them for making a scene? Can you all really fit on that moral high ground?" A chilling voice cut through the tension like a knife. To everyone's surprise, Landon stepped onto the stage, his commanding presence parting the crowd like a powerful wave. The room fell silent; no one expected this drama to draw out Landon! Evan was the first to recover, rushing forward, "Mr. Lynch, I'm sorry for this mess, this whole situation..." His heart skipped a beat, feeling the raw and unmistakable hostility from the man before him. He clamped his mouth shut, helplessly watching as Landon strode to Julia's side, shielding her from every curious gaze. "We..." This was the Lynch family's powerhouse. If he got angry, the entire Blair family would be in deep trouble tonight. "An engagement involves two people. Both have to agree. Since Julia doesn't agree, why force it?" Landon cast a cold gaze at the guests below, "Miss Blair has made it clear—she wants to call off the engagement." The crowd remained silent, so Landon asked again, his voice icy, "What century are we living in? Are arranged marriages and forced engagements still a thing? Dare there be any?" Chandler was left speechless, stammering incoherently. "Mr. Lynch, this is a family issue. You don't really have the right to step in, do you?" Evan's face turned pale as he looked past Landon at Julia, his patience wearing thin, "Julia, can you please stop this?" "Julia, it's all my fault. If you're angry, take it out on me. Don't let it affect the relationship between our families." Luna chimed in softly, slipping into her usual role of the dutiful and understanding sister. Julia turned at the sound, casually replying, "Yes, it's all your fault for seducing my fiancé and playing the homewrecker. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have had a falling out with Evan, suddenly going crazy and calling off the marriage. After all, everyone knows how in love Evan and I were before." The crowd was left reeling, having stumbled upon a scandalous revelation! The engagement banquet hadn't even reached the main course, and everyone was already feasting on gossip. Clearly, Luna hadn't anticipated Julia's bold move, leaving her flustered and speechless. In the past, no matter how much chaos Julia stirred up, she always bit her tongue for the sake of both families' reputations. But today, it was as if she had become a completely different person! "Julia!" Evan was furious. "What nonsense are you talking about? Luna is your sister! How can you tarnish her reputation like this?" Watching Evan's sudden change of face, Julia found it all so ironic. Just moments ago, when his fiancée was slapped, he remained indifferent. Yet now, he was quick to defend his sister-in-law. Clearly, his heart had been with Luna all along. Suddenly, it all seemed utterly pointless to her. She had spent seven long years loving this man, who once promised that he would never let her suffer any grievance in her life. And what happened? His promises disappeared like a puff of smoke. Perhaps sensing Julia's emotions, Landon draped his suit jacket over her shoulders and whispered softly, "I'll take you away." Julia nodded. She had done what she needed to do; there was no reason to stay any longer. The ones who should be ashamed were them, not her. With a graceful stride, Julia stepped off the stage in her high heels, her dress swaying gently, exuding an air of noble aloofness. Evan called out loudly after her, "Julia!" "You fawn over other women while ignoring your own fiancée's suffering. You're nothing but a loser." Landon's voice was low, laced with danger. "You have no right to keep her." Evan was stunned, left to watch helplessly as Landon followed in Julia's footsteps, his fists clenched tight, veins bulging on the backs of his hands. Seeing this, Chandler was in a panic. If Julia really walked out like this and the engagement was called off, the business dealings between the two families would be completely ruined. With this thought, Chandler took on the role of the family patriarch and shouted angrily at Julia's retreating figure, "If you dare walk out that door, don't ever think about coming back!"
