They awoke the next morning, sharing silly grins. Jim went home for breakfast, saying that if George was in a rotten mood, he’d take it out on him rather than his mom. It was Brian’s day off work. Jim had two gardening jobs to do, but Brian never went with him unless it was to Mrs. Guardino’s. Brian sighed at how her grown children semi-neglected her. He phoned her, waited for her coughing fit to subside, and she gave him a short list of groceries she needed, half of which were for cookies and snacks. Who was he to judge? He took his bike the few blocks to the store, figuring it was better than polluting the air using the car. He got the few items for Mrs. Guardino and dropped them off at her house.
