They watched TV for a couple hours until Brian turned it off and retrieved his guitar from upstairs. For over an hour, he played mostly Western songs, pleasing Jim. Brian played two cool ballads and softly spoke the words, making them sound almost sexy. Jim drew a landscape in a sketchpad he kept there. “You’re a good artist.” Brian gingerly placed the guitar in its case. Jim grinned. “Far out, dude, so very, very far out.” He flipped Brian the peace sign. Brian turned on a nightlight and the main light off. They crawled into bed. Jim said, “Can I ask you something?
