Dear me,
It’s been 4 weeks since I moved in here with the Masons. Everyone is nice except for Chloe of course. Summer break starts soon and I’m excited for that. I’ll have more time to read and watch Harry Potter because that’s all I ever do. It’s late at night right now and Chloe is not home so I can have some peace now. She went to a party or something. It’s been easier talking to Sherley. I still have it kind of hard talking to Jack and to Steph it’s always been easier. I’ve been playing soccer with her almost everyday and she likes it, I like it too. Chloe mostly yells at me or just ignores me. Weird thing is, last week I caught her looking around in my room. I don’t know what she did in there. Maybe she doesn’t trust me and wants to find out more about me. I didn’t tell Shirley or Jack that she was in my room and she was confused why I didn’t snitch on her even though she deserves it. I don’t know why I’m sticking up for a person who hates my guts.
I walk downstairs from my room and turn the tv on in the living room. I put on Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows part 2 and sit down on the couch. The music of the movie starts playing and I already feel a smile forming on my face. These movies can make me instantly happy.
I’m about an hour into the movie. Everyone went to sleep but I was still watching the movie. Chloe still hadn’t come home from her part and it is already one in the morning. I wonder if she’s okay. Why am I worrying about a girl that doesn’t even like me. I slowly drift off to sleep while the movie is still playing.
I get woken up by someone shaking me. I open my eyes and see Chloe in front of me. I guess she came home from that party. “You movie is still playing.” Chloe says but this time she’s calm and not yelling at me. The movie still hasn’t finished. Chloe sits down besides me on the couch. “What are you watching?” She asks me. I look at her shocked that she has never seen Harry Potter. I show her the dvd box instead of talking. “Harry Potter, huh, I’ve never seen it, Is it good?” She asks me and I nod. I’m surprised she is talking to me like a normal person because usually she always yells at me and tells me what I do wrong.
“Hey Emma, I’m sorry about giving you a hard time.” She says, I look at her shocked. I know she’s in a good mood right now but I did not expect her to apologise. “It’s just that you just came in here and no one looks at me anymore. With you moving in here, you need a lot of attention and Steph is only 5 so she needs a lot of attention. I’m 16 and I don’t get any attention from my parents anymore, I just feel lonely I guess.” She says sadly. She just looks at the movie while I just look at her face. I’ve never seen Chloe being so real. She always just yells at me and I never see her like this.
“I’m sorry.” Is all I’m able to get out of my mouth.
“You talk.” She says and laughs a little, I laugh too. I guess she hasn’t really heard me talk a lot. “I’m going to sleep.” She says getting up from the couch. “Don’t hide your voice, it’s beautiful.” She says and then disappears up the stairs. I smile at her comment. I hope this nice version of Chloe isn’t gone by tomorrow cause I like this Chloe
I decide to not finish the movie cause I am really tired. I shut off the tv and put the dvd back in the case and I take it with me upstairs. I put it away and go to sleep. I fall asleep pretty quickly and drift off into dream land.
I wake up late in the morning. I look at the clock on my wall and see that it’s already 11 am. I get out of my bed. My hair is a mess but I go downstairs without brushing it or making myself look decent enough. I walk into the kitchen where Sherley and Jack were sitting and I see through the window that Steph and Chloe were playing outside.
“Good morning Emma.” Sherley says to me. I smile and say good morning to both of them.
I sit down at the table and eat some cereal as breakfast but not much because it’ll almost be lunch time since I woke up so late. “How did you sleep?” Sherley asks me.
“Good.” I say a little short off. I’m still not great with talking to Jack. If it was Sherley alone I would probably have told her about Chloe being nice to me when she came home last night. But with Jack in the same room, I just can’t. It’s weird I know.
“Chloe told me you two talked yesterday.” Sherley tells me. I nod while I take a bite from my cereal. I didn’t think Chloe would have told her. “I told you she’d come around.” She says and smiles at me. Now that Chloe told her mom about the conversation, does that mean she’ll keep being nice to me?
Chloe and Steph come into the kitchen. “You’re awake!” Steph yells a little bit out of excitement as she sees me. I laugh and give her a hug. Steph is so sweet. “Can we play soccer?” She asks jumping up and down. I laugh at her cuteness of her.
“Sure let me get dressed and I’ll come outside.” I say forgetting that there are other people in the room that can hear me too.
I look away from Steph and see Jack, Sherley and Chloe looking at us. I look down a little embarrassed. I clean up the bowl and spoon that I used for my cereal and I go upstairs to get changed in some decent clothes instead of my pjs. When I finish changing, I hear someone come into my room, it’s Chloe.
“Why do you get embarrassed all the time when you speak?” She asks me but not in an angry way. Good she’s still nice to me.
“I just…” I start speaking nervously but she cuts me off. “You don’t have to be embarrassed around this family. We all do embarrassing things and we just laugh it off all together.” She says nicely to me.
“Thanks, I just have it hard talking I guess.” I say nervously.
“It’s okay take your time.” She says and leaves my room. I don’t know why she’s so nice to me all of a sudden but. I’m not complaining, I like this Chloe a lot better. I get out of my room and go downstairs to play soccer with Steph.
