Chapter 8

2026 Words
Unknown POV “Tell King Alaric that I need to see him. I brought gifts”. I said to the guard at the entrance to the Mansion. I gave him a small smile. “Get the f**k out of here you witch, your blood smells putrid. Leave or I will kill you,” the vampire with the stone face said as he stepped towards me, trying to be intimidating. These a**h***s, I thought. They don't know who they are f**king with. “Well get in line,” I replied. “Everyone is trying to f**kin kill me my whole life,” I finished saying. I slowly walked over to the vampire and whispered to him in my sultry voice, “Help me get an audience with King Alaric and I'll reward you handsomely.” I said as my hand touched his shoulders and I gazed into his eyes. The vampire didn’t move. I knew I had him. I reached for his arm with my hand and said, “You make me burn for you, baby.” Suddenly, the vampire is screaming “It burns! Let go of me, b***h!” I refused to let go of his arm. I could see his white flesh turn red and looked like fire was burning him from the inside of his arm. His screams were getting louder and I knew it would attract attention. I could see the fire travelling up his arm, threatening to burn his torso. I released his arm and pushed hard, making him fly into the gate. I love my powers. This little performance has now drawn several guards and residents of the house outside by the entrance. Just as I wanted it too. I straightened out my clothes, put on an innocent smile and said in a pleasant voice, “I am here seeking counsel with the King on behalf of my Mistress Widow. She has information on the location of the 'Chosen one' and wants to make a deal. King Alaric knows where we are,”. I paused for affect. “Oh, before I forget. A gift to the King from my Mistress Widow.” I pulled out the long vile of blood and handed it to the guard. “Golden Blood”, I announced. I heard gasps in the crowd. “It was hard to find a human who was RH neg, we have more where that came from. I hope your King will enjoy this.” I gave a slight bow and whispered my teleportation spell. I felt the familiar tug of the spell and disappeared. I'm back. I can see the base of the rocky mountains and the Cache la Poudre river. I hope the King will make a deal, I thought to myself. This nightmare I call my life can finally come to an end and I can get my revenge. I started walking towards the river. I saw our cabin in the distance with red smoke billowing out the chimney. Wanda must be whipping up something good. I walked up to the door of the cabin and opened it. I stared into the room and saw Wanda in an apron bubbling up something in the cauldron. Without turning to face me, she asked, “Ah, Raven, how did it go? Did they get the message?” “It went smoothly, just like you said, mistress.” I replied. Josephine (Jo) POV My mind and my body have been betraying me ever since yesterday, when I met my mate. I can’t think of anything else but his ripped body covered in ink, giving him that sexy bad boy look. He is exactly my type. He is a God that I would like to worship on my knees, My wolf Mya said, Are you always horny? I asked my wolf. I felt her roll her eyes in my head. My wolf Mya was not helping at all, and just kept showing me images of our sexy mate. When our mate pinned me to the wall yesterday, I felt my core heat up and prayed he wouldn’t smell my arousal. I had to hold myself back from wrapping my legs around his waist and dry h**ping him in front of my unit. I told you that our mate would have appreciated that. Mya said with a chuckle. And who was that b***h wh**e that sent a pic of her fake t*ts and small a**. It brought about a foreign emotion. Jealousy was a green-eyed monster, me. When we see that b***h she is dead, Calm down “Murder, she wrote”. But your right that b***h needs to die, we would be doing a public service getting rid of that sk**k. I said. Even though I was jealous, I think I played it off smoothly with confidence. Maybe I even captured his interest. I’m usually the one making my pursuers jealous. “Jo!” Sam said as he walked towards me. “I have been trying to link you, your block is up,” he said. “I didn’t realize, did we get orders?” I asked. “Yes, and if you get your f**king head out of the clouds, you would know that Alpha John wants to see you in his office, now.” Sam mumbled as he walked away from me. What's with the b**ch attitude, I wondered. I walked towards the main office. I know my uncle, Alpha Smith, speaks highly of Alpha John and the Shadow moon pack. I thought it was f**ked up that Alpha John and his family went into hiding because his crazy mate and he had Beta Michael take over in his absence. I knocked on the door. “Come in”, I heard a man's voice say from the other side of the door. “You wanted to see me, Alpha?” I said. “Yes, you are Alpha Smith's niece. Welcome to Casper, I wish we had met under different circumstances,” he politely said. “My name is Jo, and it’s an honor to be here and offer assistance,” I replied. Part of me wanted to know if my mate told his family about me. “I want to ask if you are willing to be on my daughter, Jade’s protection detail? She is a little feisty, but has a good head on her shoulders,” Alpha John asked. I took a moment to think. I can handle a feisty teenager, people from my pack would call me that, and more. “It would be my honor, Alpha,” I said with a bow of my head. “Thank you Jo, I think you the best person for the job. Please grab your things and you will be staying at my house in the guest room so you can be close to Jade,” he said. My body froze. Wait, do I need to stay at his house? With my mate in the house? Oh no, I didn’t think of that. I felt panic rise in my chest. “Sir, I thought I would stay here with my unit and be with Jade during the day?” A hint of worry was evident in my voice. “I need my daughter to build trust with you. What better way to do that than staying with us?” he replied. I couldn’t argue with his logic. Trust is important between the protector and the target, it can be the deciding factor between life or death. “I understand Alpha, I will get my things now.” I bowed and walked out of the office. An hour later, I am walking behind Alpha John through his front door. I am a bit nervous about how things will work out or even if my mate knows I will be staying here. The inside of the house is nice and homey, it looks like a family lives here. The living room had a wide sectional couch set. On the other side of the room was a shelf that looked like it held all the things an entertainment center would have. But what caught my interest was on the far wall were family photos. My eyes automatically found a little Jacob in the portraits. A lot of the photos have him on a dirt bike, or skateboarding. Is that him playing football? He was a looker when he was young. My thoughts were interrupted by Alpha John yelling upstairs. “Jade! Can you come down here?” “Be right down,” I heard a girl's voice say. A minute later, I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. This beautiful black-haired, athletic girl came into the living room. She looks at me and then at her dad. Maybe my army boots and camo pants make me stand out, but she doesn't look bothered by my appearance. Alpha John address jade, “Jade, this is Jo. She is a warrior from the Rising Moon pack. She will be your personal bodyguard.” “It’s an honor to meet you Jade.” I said, holding out my right hand for her to shake. “You're a warrior?” Jade asked. “Females can be warriors too?” she asked as she came towards me and shook my hand. “Yes, in my pack, women train with men, making us stronger.” I told her. “Can I train with you? I only train with my dad and brothers, but never with another female.” Jade said. “Of course, I was gonna actually suggest that to you,” I said. Jade seems pretty cool, I think I can show her a thing or two. “Jade, show Jo the guest room she will be staying in.” Alpha John asked. “This way, Jo, it's a decent sized room with its own bathroom.” We walked down the hall and I saw 3 doors. Jade points to the first door and says, “This is my aunt Layla’s room. You will meet her later. You are in the middle room and my brother Jacob’s room is the last door.” Jade said, as she opened my room door. I can’t sleep next door to Jacob, that would be torture. Oh moon goddess, what twisted humor you have. Jade doesn't seem to notice my inner conflict and continues to talk, “So the second floor is where my dad and my 2 brothers, James and Jack, stay, and I am on the top floor, in the loft.” Jade said. “Thanks for showing me to my room and being so welcoming. I'm gonna unpack before the welcoming ceremony this evening,” I said. Jade's face fell and she had sadness laced in her voice, “I hate that everyone is here to protect me and some might get hurt, like my brothers or you. It's not fair.” I was surprised at her confession but her words warmed my heart and I felt pity for her. It can't be normal being the target and the chosen one. "Hey Jade, maybe we can get ready together for the welcome ceremony this evening?" I asked her with a small smile on my face. Jade returned my smile and said in an enthusiastic voice, " Yes, I would love that," she said. We heard a small knock on the open room door. There was a beautiful woman who didn’t look a day over 30. “Hey ladies, wanna have some lunch?" Walking towards me, she says, I'm Aunt Layla, by the way,” holding out her hand. I reached for her hand and introduced myself, “Hi, I'm Josephine but everyone calls me Jo.” Layla locked eyes with me, making me feel awkward, but being the b***h I am, I forced myself to stare back with no expression. After a moment, she lets my hand go and a beautiful smile appears on her face and says, “Oh your my niece in-love. Nice to finally meet you” she said to me. panic starts to rise in me. How did she know that?
