CHAPTER 24 Mykal did his best at ignoring the pangs of hunger that rolled inside his belly. The constant aroma of cooking meat and baked breads reached them and then hovered. The temptation grew, but Mykal fought the desire. Heading into the valley for a meal was a bad idea. He didn’t bother running it by Blodwyn. His friend would have agreed. The people were already in danger just by them staying so closely to the town. One plus, which barely made up for the mounting negatives about the trek, was the temperature. The wind was steady, but not brutal. The sun continued shining, although heat from the rays barely penetrated the near-frozen landscape. It could’ve been worse. It could’ve always been worse. Thankfully it wasn’t snowing or sleeting. They were dry, and for the most part, warm.
