Chapter 46 Dov Dorevitch Releases a Deadly Virus on Mars to Stay in Power

1211 Words
Dov Dorevitch, the brother of Melchior Dorevitch, was sitting in his command room in the presidential palace of the former Olympus Republic. Various maps and figures were beeping on the displays in the room, and it wasn’t encouraging news for Dov. With Dov in charge, ruling the Martian Dominion while his brother was away, the entire empire was falling apart. Evidently, the people opposing the Martian Dominion on Mars had figured out how to deactivate and surgically remove the Zetan mind-control microchips that Melchior had forcefully implanted in everyone on Mars. The problem for Dov was although he could connect to everyone’s mind and kill anyone who seemed to dissent against him, this was too much for him to bear, and like any human, he needed to sleep and rest, and that’s when the rebels had the opportunity to strike. Dov studied the map of Mars and sighed. Six months ago, his brother had controlled all of Mars, and now they had lost most of their territories. Dov’s only relief was that the rebels that were against him also fought amongst themselves, which stopped them from uniting against him temporarily.  But this wasn’t much of a relief as his territories were dwindling by the day, and it was likely that the Terran Council would come after him because of what his brother did. Although they were not officially at war with the Terran Council anymore, Dov knew that House Muller would want revenge for the humiliation they faced when Melchior threatened to destroy their capital. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, and Dov’s Chief Scientist Frank Van Stein entered the room. Dov gave him a sullen look and spoke: -          Dr Van Stein, what are you doing here? You are not invited to the upcoming military strategy meeting. Frank Van Stein smirked at Dov and spoke: -          Don’t worry about the military briefing. As a matter of fact, I have come to tell you to cancel it. Dov Dorevitch: -          Who are you to give me orders? And besides, you’re asking me to cancel a military briefing during an army emergency. Are you insane? Frank Van Stein: -          We both know that you cannot win this battle militarily anymore. That ship has sailed. Attend that meeting, and you’ll find that half of those commanders will not attend. Some of them have deserted us, and some have joined our enemies. Dov Dorevitch: -          Did you come here to say something useful, or just to spread salt in my wounds? Frank Van Stein: -          I am sure you’ll find that I have a few aces up my sleeve. -          Melchior predicted that you might f**k up and he told me to work on something that would ensure our control. Having said this, Frank Van Stein pulled up a vial with bluish liquid from the pocket of his lab coat. Frank smiled and spoke: -          This vial contains the future for mankind, and for us! Dov was going to say something when the nearby explosion of an artillery shell shook the building and caught Dov by surprise, knocking him to the ground.  Frank stood still in the room stoically, and seemingly unaffected. -          It seems like Colonel Slavonic has turned against you, Dov. I’d say your days are numbered. Dov Dorevitch: -          You knew of Colonel Slavonic’s betrayal, and yet you did nothing. I should have you executed for treason. Frank Van Stein: -          You could.  But executing me would also doom yourself. You’ll be overrun within days, and then you’ll have to make a choice. Stay here and die, or run and face Melchior’s wrath when he returns. Which one do you prefer? Dov Dorevitch: -          I suppose this is the part where you are offering me a third option, in exchange for your life? Frank Van Stein: -          I am not afraid of dying, but yes, I am offering a third choice to give us a glorious future. -          This vial contains an airborne virus capable of altering the human DNA, and of inserting specific Xeno DNA sequences into our veins. Dov Dorevitch: -          So, you are going to release a virus that transforms our entire population to a bunch of drooling man-eating beasts? Tell me, how is the Zombie Apocalypse going to benefit us? Frank scoffed at Dov and looked at him with disdain, before addressing him with a derogatory tone: -          Bah. The Zombie Apocalypse. What a load of rubbish. You should know that zombies contradict all elementary biology, so don’t even bother annoying me with that rubbish. -          SIT DOWN, and I will explain how this is going to work. Another explosion rattled the building and the speechless and dumbfounded Dov did as directed and had a seat. Frank spoke again: -          Good boy! Melchior told me that you would come to your senses. -          So. The synthetic air-borne virus I intend to spread is going to revolutionise mankind by altering all our citizens to Xeno-Martians. The Xeno-Martian hybrids are ferocious, very strong and powerful like the Xenos, but they are not mindless and have thoughts of their own. After all, your brother had the same mutations, and he still had his wits around him. Dov: -          Well, he changed dramatically though. I never understood the desire for blood and eating his captives alive. Frank: -          Such is the Xeno way. But don’t worry; fearsome as they may be, they are also unquestionably loyal to their leader Melchior, and by proxy towards you. Dov: -          And what about everyone that has incompatible DNA for Xeno-Martian hybridisation? Frank: -          Oh, I am sure you are referring to Melchior’s former chancellor, Peter Belovic? Dov: -          Yes, among other examples. Frank: -          Well, true genetic modification always comes at a cost. If we release this vial, a lot of people with incompatible DNA will die horrendously, with painful deaths.  But the ones that manage to live on will have greater DNA and much stronger power and life. Such is the way of nature, and we are living in fascinating times. We are about to get front row seats to the next step in human evolution! Suddenly, a group of armed men stormed into the room. Their commander approached Dov and spoke: -          Dov Dorevitch. We are here to detain you on orders from Colonel Slavonic. Before Dov had time to respond, Frank pulled up his pistol and rapidly shot the six intruders in their heads before they even had time to react. Frank remarked calmly: -          I guess time is running out Dov. We better hurry to the wind generator straight away so we can blow the air-borne virus onto our civilisation. Dov nodded and said nothing. Together the two men rushed towards the room with the wind generator. Once they were outside Dov opened the door with his DNA signature. Dov then took the virus and put it in the wind generator and fired its deadly cargo unto the army base of Colonel Slavonic. A short while later the artillery bombardment ended…
