Chapter 20 Hilda Muller Covers Up the Failed Military Campaign

622 Words
A few days later, Hilda Muller was looking at the lifeless corpse of Emma Schindler, while sitting in a chair opposite to her in a meeting room in Europeum Towers. Officially, the cause of death would be a heart attack, and that was what the independent autopsy report would show. Hilda, however, knew the real cause of death: a synthetic virus designed specifically towards Emma’s genome, which caused a heart attack.  After her failure to kill Rangda and instead bringing back a mummified alien, Hilda had to silence her former bodyguard, it was a necessary sacrifice. From Emma’s report, she had not only failed the mission and lost the entire force she went in with. She had also caused a confrontation with the Zetan alien species, meaning that instead of dealing with the Xeno threat, Emma had increased the threat level by having a lethal confrontation with another species, the Zetans. Hilda, as Chairwoman of the Terran Council, had forbidden any more expeditions to the Divine Dimension, and as such, she would need to find a way to restore Earth’s rotational speed to avoid a widespread ecological collapse, when the day-night cycle became too much out of sync. Suddenly the intercom beeped. It was Markus White. She had been too busy dealing with the Emma Schindler debacle to keep her planned meeting with him in mind. She hesitated but decided to let him in. After all, he was her closest ally, and she could trust him more than she could trust most of her own family members. Markus White was shocked when he saw Emma Schindler’s corpse, and he started stuttering: -          What happened here? Why is your right-hand woman sitting dead in a chair? Hilda Muller: -          She died of a heart attack. Markus White: -          A heart attack? So where is the medical staff? Hilda Muller: -          They will come when I deem it suitable for them to arrive. In half an hour or so. Markus White: -          Half an hour? But then she will be dead beyond resurrection? Hilda Muller: -          Yes. Markus White: -          What is really going on here? Hilda Muller: -          I will tell you since you are my ally and friend. -          I appointed Emma to lead an attack on the Xenos, hoping to kill off their queen Rangda who was behind the attacks on Earth. You have seen her, remember? Markus White: -          Yes, I am still having recurring nightmares about that day! Hilda Muller: -          Anyways. Emma failed miserably. Instead of fighting the Xenos, she caused a confrontation with another alien species, the Zetans. After that bloody confrontation, Emma abandoned her army, which was butchered by the ambushing Xenos. -          So, because of Emma, we are not at war with one alien species but two different species. -          As for Emma’s death, a military court would give her the same outcome, but we cannot allow the reasons to be public, that’s why I did what I had to do.  Markus White: -          I am sorry Hilda, but this is too much for me. Why are you telling me all this? You could have kept me in the dark and met me in another room. Hilda Muller: -          Yes, but you are my ally, my friend and my love interest. I don’t want there to be secrets between us. Markus White: -          Not even dark secrets? Hilda Muller: -          Not even dark secrets! Markus White: -          I see. Well, thank you for being honest with me. I must leave now, I’ll see you another day. After saying this Markus rushed off to the closest toilet and threw up.
