The Night Everything Changed

CHAPTER 1 The moment Isabella stepped inside the club, the loud music hit her chest. The lights flashed in fast colors. The crowd moved like a wave. She felt dizzy before the alcohol even touched her lips. Cara grabbed her hand immediately. “Isa, forget everything tonight. You lost your job. Your rent went up. You need this one night.” Isabella hated clubs, but she loved her friend. She allowed Cara to pull her to the bar. A cold drink landed in her hand before she could protest. “Drink,” Cara said. So she drank. Slow at first. Then quicker. Warmth spread through her body. Her shoulders relaxed. Her mind softened. She turned her head and that was when she saw him. A tall man in a black shirt stood in the corner of the club. He was not dancing. He was not smiling. He was just watching the crowd quietly. Watching her. She looked away fast. Her heart skipped. Her cheeks heated. Cara whispered loudly. “Isa, that fine man is looking at you.” Isabella pretended not to hear, but she felt it. He was still watching her. She took another sip to steady herself. It did not help. She walked toward the dance floor for fresh air. Her foot slipped slightly from the alcohol. A strong hand caught her waist before she could fall. She looked up. It was him. His face was even more handsome up close. His jaw sharp. His eyes dark and unreadable. His voice low when he said, “Be careful.” “I am fine,” Isabella breathed, even though her heart was racing like crazy. He did not remove his hand. She did not ask him to. Something held them there. The music felt softer now. The lights felt slower. Only he felt real. He leaned closer. “Dance with me.” He did not smile. He did not flirt. He just said it like the whole world had already agreed. Isabella placed her hand in his. Her body followed him before her mind understood what she was doing. He pulled her into the crowd, holding her waist gently but firmly. Their bodies fit together too easily. Her chest brushed his. His breath warmed her neck. Her fingers slid up his shoulder without thinking. The dance was slow, even though the music was fast. She felt safe. She felt nervous. She felt everything. He lowered his head slightly. His lips brushed her ear. “You are beautiful.” Her breath caught. Her fingers tightened on his shirt. She looked up at him again. He looked back at her like she was the only thing alive in the room. Their faces drew closer without trying. Her lips parted. His hand moved to her cheek. Her eyes dropped to his mouth. One second. Two seconds. Three. Then he kissed her. Soft. Warm. Dangerous. The kind of kiss that steals thought. The kind of kiss that makes you forget the world. Her hand slid into his hair. His arm wrapped around her waist. The kiss grew deeper. Hotter. Stronger. Everything inside her melted. He pulled back slightly, breathing hard. His forehead rested on hers. His voice felt like heat on her skin. “Come with me.” Isabella should have thought. She should have stepped back. She should have said no. She did not. He took her hand. She followed him toward the elevator. Her heart pounded. Her lips still tingled. Her body trembled from the fire he lit inside her. The elevator doors opened. He pushed her gently inside. Their lips met again. Her back hit the wall. His hand slid to her waist. Her breath broke. Just when everything was getting hotter… Just when his lips were trailing down her neck… Just when her fingers pulled him closer… The elevator doors opened to the hotel hallway. He lifted her chin with his fingers. His eyes burned into hers. “Come.” He opened the hotel room door. She stepped inside. The heat rose. The room closed behind them. Everything was about to happen. Everything was about to change.
