Mia stopped climbing. “Why?” Raven tilted her head. “Why what?” “Why is he not leaving?” Mia repeated, eyes still on him. Raven gave a light scoff. “He’s here to protect us, remember? How’s he supposed to do that if he’s somewhere else? This house is huge. There’s space. Just let him do his job, Mia.” Christian pointed down the hall. “That’s my room. If either of you needs anything, or sees anything strange—don’t wait.” Neither girl responded. He nodded once. “Goodnight.” Then turned away. The door closed behind him with a soft click.
