Mia stopped climbing. “Why?”
Raven tilted her head. “Why what?”
“Why is he not leaving?” Mia repeated, eyes still on him.
Raven gave a light scoff. “He’s here to protect us, remember? How’s he supposed to do that if he’s somewhere else? This house is huge. There’s space. Just let him do his job, Mia.”
Christian pointed down the hall. “That’s my room. If either of you needs anything, or sees anything strange—don’t wait.”
Neither girl responded.
He nodded once. “Goodnight.”
Then turned away. The door closed behind him with a soft click.
Mia turned to Raven.
Raven hadn’t moved.
She stood still—head slightly tilted, lips curved in a faint smile, eyes fixed on the darkened hallway.
Not because she was confused.
But because she wasn’t.
