Chapter 56: The Last Stand
Melissa’s POV
Damon and I stood on each side of the Heart, and the air crackled with raw energy. Its unsteady force threatened to tear everything apart as it pulsed with a menacing glow. Stone fragments fell to the earth all around us as the sanctuary shook.
Damon hissed, his voice resonating through the confusion, "You can't win, Melissa." "You cannot exercise this power."
The goddess had given me a shimmering staff, and I gripped it tightly, its warmth calming my shaking hands. Perhaps it is, but I won't let your anger destroy everything. This is where it ends.
