The Hellhound Brand

Raven's POV The ice water hit my skin first like broken glass, but that feral, pitch black eyes of the Alpha holding my head above the surface were literally burning through my soul. I gasped for air, choking hard on the freezing water which flooded my lungs. My whole body was on fire from inside out, followed by this desperate, piercing heat that actually had nothing to do with the fever and everything to do with this huge man kneeling beside the tub. Kai's massive, calloused hands held my shoulders so hard, I knew it would definitely leave a bruise, forcing me down back into the ice bath, even as I thrashed and fought against him. “Hey, Stay still” he snarled, his voice ragged and wrecked. “Let the ice do it's f*****g job, or else your wolf would burn you alive” I still resisted, fighting violently, sending ice cold water splashing literally everywhere. “Get…get off me!” “Baby, I said stop fighting it, f**k!” His grip on me tightened, and the possessive way he said that ‘baby’ made something in my chest twist so painfully. My suppressed wolf was yelling inside, trying to claw herself at the surface of my goddamn consciousness, desperate to claim the Alpha whose scent was lifted all over this place. My blood was boiling due to the bold fever, and everything seemed so wrong and blurry, clouding my senses until I couldn't think straight. At this moment, all I could focus on was the intense weight of his presence and that beat that came off his huge body despite the freezing water. Just then, he sighed, climbing directly into the tub with me, fully clothed in his boots and denim. The water around him sloshed so violently as his massive frame caged me against the bathtub. His huge thighs pinned my legs underwater so that I couldn't move, couldn't breathe, couldn't even think properly about anything except this deadly, predator number in those now pitch black eyes. My ribbed tank top was now completely transparent, clinging to every fold and drive and I watched as his gaze dropped, his breath hitching almost immediately and felt that guttural, feral growl that vibrated through his chest. “I would rather be burned on a f*****g stake than being owned by you!” I spat, shivering hard, my teeth chattering, despite the heat ravaging every inch of my body. “Unfortunately, you don't have a choice, Nomad” he gripped my jaw hard, forcing my eyes to meet his. “You're my f*****g mate. And the bond doesn't give a damn about what you want and don't want” “Bullshit” His thumb traced my bottom lip, and I hated the way my body betrayed me and arched into him instinctively. Hated the way my wolf purred at the contact. The ice was numbing my skin, but the bonding fever raging inside of me was much worse. I was literally dying in this tub and the man who should have been saving me was watching me burn with that annoying smirk on his face. “What? What do you mean she took his wallet?” The voice game from behind the door, followed by the loud opening that almost made the door splinter into a thousand pieces. Jax stood there, panting like he just ran a marathon, clutching an assault rifle against his chest as though his life depended on it. His eyes were wild and red, scanning between Kai and me with something that looked like a hint of rage and pure panic. “Prez, Dante didn't just track the Nomad for breaking the rogue's arm” Jax said with a trembling tone. “...he told us who's arm she broke” Kai's grip on my jaw tightened as he shot his head to Jax. “Who?” “Four years ago, the rogue she crippled wasn't just a nobody” Jax's face went pale as he spoke. “It…it was Dante Hawke’s blood brother” The freezing water suddenly felt like a thousand f*****g needles prickling my skin. My heart stopped dead in my chest and my wolf finally stopped thrashing restlessly. “And, she didn't just break his arm, Prez. He claims she took a leather wallet. Dante's physical territory ledger was folded inside of it” Jax gulped hard. “...for four years, she's been carrying their kill list” Fuck. That heavy leather wallet. I remembered the folded black pages, but I used it to light my first ever campfire. Oh goddess. I scrambled violently, desperate to get out of this freezing tub and run, to escape this sickening situation that suddenly came crashing down on me. But just then, my soaked tank top suddenly smashed on something; maybe Kai's belt buckle, or the faucet, but it tore straight down the side. Everything froze. Kai stopped moving. Those pitch black eyes of his locking onto my fully exposed ribs with an anger so deadly, so f*****g terrifying, I couldn't even breathe. The huge, scarred silver burn that covered my entire side was impossible to ignore. The unmistakable, horrible markings of a wolf who had been chained and tortured in the back of a Hellhound van. The bathroom went dead silent. Jax stared at the ugly marks, the blood completely draining from his face. But Kai didn't look horrified. He looked like a god of war who had just been handed a reason to end the world. The terrifying, bone snapping rumble of his wolf tore through his massive chest. The freezing water in the tub literally vibrated around us. He pulled me entirely out of the ice, his massive hands wrapping me in his own heavy leather cut, swallowing my scent and my scars in his warmth. “Prez” Jax whispered, taking a slow step back. “Dante has fifty men out there. We can't go to war for a girl we don't even know.” Kai didn't even look at his VP. He stared down at me, his thumb tracing my bruised bottom lip with terrifying, possessive gentleness. “Tell Dante Hawke,” Kai said, his voice distorted into a demonic, guttural roar that shook the walls. “That he has ten seconds to get off my property, or I'm mailing his brother's head back to him in a f*****g box.”
