CHAPTER 10 Next day I drove over to Cadogan Square around ten o’clock, parking in a layby on the far side of the Square so as not to be directly outside the apartment block. Stepping out of the car I paused for a moment, taking a general look at the area. It really was very pleasant here, my impression admittedly being influenced by the sunshine that made a welcome relief from the previous day’s rain and wind. It was still cold but clear, sunlight sparkling on raindrops as if the black railings that surrounded the block were encrusted with diamonds. The Square encompassed an enclosed grassed area with a small fountain in the centre circled by four benches. There were a few neatly tended flower beds, their tilled soil awaiting a spring planting whilst multi-coloured crocuses, thrusting up
