Sleepover

When we got home Megan followed me into my room to set her bag down and change into pajamas to get ready for movies. I threw my backpack in the corner of my room and plopped down on my bed. She fell down right beside me on the bed and sighed.

“Are you nervous?” I asked her.

“Always.” She whispered.

I looked at her confused. “I mean about finding out that Luke is your mate.”

She smiled and closed her eyes. “No.” I smiled at the sight. She really did love my brother, I could feel it. Suddenly she opened her eyes and asked me a question that had never crossed my mind.

“Are you nervous to find your mate?”

I had never thought about me finding a mate. I’m a black wolf in a pack of white wolves. Even my brother had shifted into a white wolf, which made my life even shittier. I remember him tormenting me along with everyone else in my class. The girls would wait until after gym to blindside me and beat me until I cowered into a fetal position. Megan was the only one that saved me. The guys would just try to intimidate me. Especially Jared, the Alpha’s son. Jared would knock my books out of my hand while I was walking down the hall and kick one of my books as far as he could. Other times he would corner me at my locker and trap me between his arms, mocking me that I will never be loved and when it was his time to take over as alpha, he would banish me to keep the pack “pure”. He was cute but he was an asshole. He still hasn’t found his mate after being almost 19 now. I pity the woman that has to mate with him.

“I don’t have a mate.” I finally answered.

“Everyone has a mate Lee. Sometimes it takes a while to find them but everyone has one. The Moon Goddess made one for every wolf.”

“What if he isn’t in this pack?”

“What if he is?”

“He’s not going to want to be with me once he sees my wolf.”

“I don’t know, I think your wolf is hot, in a sexy badass way” she laughs.

“That makes one person.”

Suddenly my brother knocks on my door frame making both of us sit up.

“Mom and dad went out for date night. Left $20 for pizza. I’m calling it in then starting the movie.”

We both nodded and got up. I went and closed the door so we could change. I changed into a black sports bra and black athletic shorts, I put on a white tank top to finish it off. I turned around to see Megan putting on a shirt of my brothers. My face turns red as I realize she didn’t have a bra on when I saw her. I mean, we’re best friends we have seen each other shirtless before but she’s usually facing away from me. This time she must have not bothered.

“Oops. Sorry.” She quickly pulled the shirt down.

“It’s okay, you have nice boobs.” I laugh, trying to not make anything awkward. Thankfully it works. She laughs and pushes past me. I turn the light off in my room and follow her out.

We finish eating our pizza and the three of us are watching movies on the couch. Megan sits between me and Luke. Of course she has passed out before the last movie had finished. It always happens when we watched movies. I look over and see Luke’s arm around her and her head on his shoulder. He’s rubbing her back. Jealousy suddenly creeps in on me. I’m never going to find anyone that will do that for me. I’m going to be alone forever. A third wheel.

“Hey,” my brother starts, “I’m going to carry her to bed then I’ll be back to help clean.”

All I do is nod. I watch him pick her up bridal style and carry her towards my room. Once he’s out of sight I turn the movie off and bring the plates to the sink. Luke comes in and starts putting the trash away. I clean the dishes and he takes out the trash. When he comes back in I’m finishing the dishes and drying my hands.

“Hey Leah?”

“Yeah?” I look over at him.

“Do you think you can distract Megan for a while in the morning? I want to make her breakfast to celebrate her becoming my mate.” He smiled at me.

“Don’t you think she should be cooking us breakfast since it’s our birthday?” I laugh.

“I just want everything to go right.”

“Yeah. I got you.”
