My Birthday

457 Words
My brother and I finished cleaning up and went to our rooms. I looked at the time and it was 11:30 pm. I didn’t bother trying to stay up for my birthday anymore. It just didn’t seem like something I should bother with. I climbed into my bed beside Megan, who was still sleeping so soundly and peacefully. Her blonde hair was draped over her shoulder and down the side of her breast. It looked so silky I was jealous. Her body was the perfect shape with all the right curves. I rolled to face away from her, trying to drift off to sleep. My mind kept racing from one thought to another. Will my birthday make any difference in my life? Yeah it probably will. I will be 18 tomorrow. Since Jared has stepped up to being Alpha, tomorrow I will most likely get banished from the pack, leaving me as a rogue. It wouldn’t be as bad as being in this pack was. Content with the idea of being an outcast I drift into sleep. I woke up to my leg burning. I sat up as fast as I could and rubbed the spot. Megan must’ve scratched me with her toenail in her sleep or something cause her foot was there where I felt the burning. The clock read 2:23 am. I sighed and went to the bathroom, closing the door softly and turning on the light. I looked at the spot and it had no marks at all. Now that I think about it I don’t really know what that feeling was. It was like something shocked me. Like I was a kid sticking a fork in a wall outlet. Only this electricity felt subtle. Like I knew it wouldn’t hurt me, but I knew it could be dangerous. I ran some water in the sink and cleaned my face, distracting myself from the thoughts. I saw my reflection in the mirror. I was hideous. My body was too skinny and flat, my hair seemed lifeless and my skin was pale. I whispered a happy birthday to myself and turned opened the bathroom door. Suddenly a suffocating smell engulfed my nose. It smelt of rose and cinnamon. Like the candles they sell during the fall. I could stand there and smell it for hours. Suddenly I hear a voice call out to me. “ Mate.” Said the sweetest and softest voice I had ever heard in my entire life. Suddenly everything seemed to fade away and in that moment I didn’t care about a single thing. And I couldn’t help but say it back. “Mate.”
