The Corvette turned left. I sped up. I knew from experience that this particular light never stayed green for very long. I gained distance. The Corvette disappeared. The light turned yellow. Would I make it? No! I stood on my brakes and landed a foot over the line. I swung around, checked to see if anyone was behind me, then backed up. I slammed the stick into drive. The Corvette was motoring west over a slight hill. I stretched my neck. I could no longer see it. I leaned forward and spat out the words, “Damn. Damn.” I rolled my vehicle forward. I stared at the red light, willing it to turn green. Vehicles passed through the intersection from downtown Prince George. Trucks, cars, SUVS, convoys of traffic. I should have thought of the wig sooner. First chance I had I was putting it on.
