Chapter 21 Malyn sits in front of her dresser, holding that mirror. All this time, I thought the looking glass was reflecting her face. I thought it was a coincidence that her eye happened to be reflected in that same shard both this time and last. But that wasn’t what was happening at all. Malyn is looking at me through the mirror. She’s in the Waking, peering into the Dreaming. I sit down on a bench so hard that someone might say that I collapsed onto it. They wouldn’t be wrong. My knees—ghostly as they are—practically give out on me. I stare at the cracked mirror. The faceless princess has turned it so that I can see her ice-blue eye watching my reaction with amusement. Why didn’t I see it before? That sense of disorienting carnival of reflections. It’s off. Jumbled. It’s so weird
