Chapter 26 I lean against the stone wall outside the king’s chambers. The stone behind my back is cold and so is the air. It’s nowhere near winter, yet I swear the temperature has dropped. The guard goes back to standing in front of the door as though nothing happened. He doesn’t even look at me, which gives me a chance to look at him. His helm and uniform are the same as the king’s other personal guards. I saw the king from afar during dreams of festivals and parades.
