The banquet plays out in the cracked mirror just as I remember it. There is one crucial difference, though. My memories end with the evil fairy being introduced into my father’s hall. I can’t remember anything beyond that.
This time, the scene doesn’t stop with the trumpeting of the announcement of the fairy. This time, the herald announces her. He trips over her name, making an unintelligible sound and mumbling at the end, clearly embarrassed by his obvious mispronunciation.
I try to memorize the sound of it because this is the first time I have a name that I can attach to the fairy who cursed me. But trying to memorize the unfamiliar and mispronounced name is useless. Fairies change their names when they talk with humans anyway.
