Chapter 17 There’s a grunting sound outside my tower. I walk over to the window, bracing myself to see another ogre climbing over the wall. The dread in the pit of my stomach has a new urgency now that I’ve seen Malyn’s version of the curse. There’s no new ogre, but down in the courtyard, a patch of thorns stirs. Apparently, the ogre who fell into the brambles is still alive. He must have been knocked out by the fall and is regaining consciousness. I almost step away but stop myself. I’ve watched several ogres die, and it’s not a pretty sight. But I can’t help myself. The nervous fluttering and nausea tells me that I need to watch, just in case he makes it to my tower.
