Chapter Two: The Past is Revealed

3584 Words
Wisterias POV 17 years old I woke to the sun shining through the trees and the birds chirping. I took a big whiff of the morning air and sighed, looking up at the trees and sky. I closed my eyes again and then heard snoring. I looked around me to see all four brothers snuggling a part of me. Jaxon held my left arm, and Daren had my right. Looking down, I saw Ryker holding my left leg and Xaiden holding my right. I laughed to myself as I said, "Just like old times." and tried to untangle them from me to get some food. As I set up some snares, I noticed some blackberry bushes and decided to pick some while I waited for the traps to be triggered. When I looked at the snares, I had caught five frogs. As I was heading back, I stopped at the river and got some fresh water. As I knelt to get the water, I heard trigs snapping in the distance. I acted as though I didn't notice to throw them off. As they got closer, I slowly took my knife out of my boot so as not to cause alarm. When I felt them behind me, I reached back, grabbed their fur, and flung them over my head. As I straddled the wolf, I held the knife to its through. "SHIFT," I said in an alpha command. One I barely used. As I saw them shift to their human, I was confused. "Xaiden?! What are you doing?! I could have killed you!!!" "You still could," He said, pointing at the knife I held to his throat. As I looked at the knife, I heard three other food steps. When I looked up, I saw the other brothers staring at us. "What did you do to piss her off, brother?" Daren said as the three of them laughed. "Can you remove the knife, please?" Xaiden asked, and I quickly put it back in my boot. "Your bother here decided it would be fun to sneak up on a girl who had been running her whole life while she was hunting and gathering," I said, exasperated. "And then got his ass kicked because I noticed him before he approached me." "She alpha commanded me," Xaiden said, pointing his finger at me. As I turned away from scowling at him, the others looked thrown back. "Yup, I was in wolf form and wanted to surprise her, and then she threw me over her head after grabbing my fur. Awww, by the way, she straddled me, put a knife to my throat, and commanded me to shift back." "In my defense, I didn't know who you were, and as a hybrid, I need to stay on my toes. I'm always looking over my shoulder. I thought uncle Quinn explained that to your family already?" He looked down at his feet, and Jaxon hit him on the back of his head. "He did, and this i***t should have remembered that," Jaxon said, looking at his brother angrily. "But he didn't say that you are part of an alpha family." looking at me, confused. "Well, as you know, I never knew my father and my mother is a witch-werewolf hybrid. But she isn't part of an alpha family, so that leaves my father. But I only recently found this out about two weeks ago and haven't told Quinn yet." I said matter of factly. "How did you find out?" Ryker asked, looking confused. "I was running away from a group of hunters, and one of them grabbed me. I got so angry and said, 'LET ME GO,' and he did. I said, 'GET DOWN TO THE GROUND,' All seven dropped to their knees. I didn't waste any time and ran as far and fast as possible." They all looked at me with those sorry eyed again. "Okay, enough of that. I have breakfast. Who's hungry?" I said as I held up the frogs and blackberries I gathered. All their hands shot up, and I laughed as I walked back to where we were lying and started a fire with my witch powers. They all looked shocked that I would willingly use my abilities in front of them. "I trust you, and you already know I'm a tribrid, so there is no use hiding it from you. Now come on, we need to eat and be on the way. Quinns is probably raging by now." I said as I cooked the food and divided out the berries. "Don't worry about Mr. Apollo. I mind-linked our dad last night about what happened, and he told Mr. Apollo everything." Jaxon said as he sat by me. "Thanks. I don't carry a phone when I'm on the road, so no one can know where I am. It's safer for everyone. I usually use a pay phone every two to three weeks to give uncle Qinn an update." I said casually. "What if he doesn't hear from you?" Xaiden asked in a scared voice. "If he doesn't hear from me in a month, he is to assume I am dead or captured and will erase all traces of me from anyone's life. You see, being the only tribrid known in existence can be a scary and lonely path. But that's what life is for me." I said as I started eating my frog. They all stared at me, and I was tired of it. Their eyes glazed over, and I knew they were talking to each other. "Finish eating. I have a better way to get us home." I said as I dusted my hands off, standing up. "I was too tired last night because I hadn't slept in days, but I can do it now." "What are you going to do?" Ryker asked, looking a little scared. "I trusted you. Now you need to trust me. Im going to wash off in the lake over there. Let me know when you're ready." I said as I walked off towards the lake. *** Xaidens POV 18 years old As I saw that Wisteria was out of earshot, I turned to my brothers. "What the hell does our little mate have planned for us?" "I don't know, but I don't like the sound of it," Ryker said, looking like he just saw a ghost. "She's going to teleport us. But knowing her, she will do it just far enough away from the border and patrols so she doesn't get caught." Jaxon said like a smart ass. "Jaxons right, she will probably do that, and we should trust her. After all, she trusted us and doesn't even know we are her mates yet." Daren said, looking off toward the lake where Wisteria walked off to. As I looked at Daren, I noticed something different. He didn't seem as rigid as he used to. After Wisteria vanished when we were eight, Daren was never the same, like he knew something we didn't. The five of us were close growing up until Wisteria stopped coming around one day. We were all lost without her, but Daren never mentioned her again. And then he was the first to notice she was our mate. It all seemed a bit strange to me. "Daren, what do you know about her disappearance ten years ago?" I asked, looking at him sternly. Jaxon and Ryker just looked confused, so I elaborated. Telling them what I had noticed once she disappeared and reappeared. And Daren sighed. "Out of all my brothers, I never would have thought you would be the one to notice Xaiden." He said, looking at the three of us sadly. "That's a little hurtful, but I understand. I thought Ryker or Jaxon would have noticed before I did." I said with a sad laugh. "Look, I left it alone for ten years, but now that she's back, we should know what happened ten years ago." He looked at the three of us and sighed, "Yeah, you do. On the day of her eighth birthday, she came into her witch powers, and I was with her in the woods and playing hide and seek while the three of you helped set up for her birthday party. It was my turn to hide; all I heard was a scream of pain. I rushed out of my hiding spot to see shadows and light emitting from her. I didn't know what was happening, so I just stood there. When I heard voices, I hid and saw a man who looked just like her. Dark Raven hair and his eyes were the same too, one honey brown with flecks of green and the other was crystal blue with purple mixed in. I figured it was someone she knew. Like family or something, but then he injected her with something, and I ran and told Mr. Apollo. He said never to speak of it again, and he would handle it. The next thing I knew, he brought her back to the shop and sent me to tell everyone she was sick and the party had to be canceled. And we never saw her again." By the end of the story, Daren was crying. It was shocking for all of us because we hadn't seen him cry since the night she went missing. We all just stared at him, astonished that he had kept all this bottled up for ten years. We hadn't even noticed when Wisteria walked up behind him and wrapped her arms around his neck. She buried her face in his neck and started crying as well. He then turned around and knocked her to the ground of the forest and cried into her shoulder, hugging her tight. "You are the only reason I'm alive right now, and don't ever forget that," She said, gently running her hand through his long wavy hair. I hated seeing my older brother like this. He kept all this guilt and pain to himself for ten years, never uttering a word about Wisteria. This is why he decided to work with Mr. Apollo and get the 'Lost Youth Program' set up in the pack. In the hopes that one day she could come home. I started crying as I remembered the three of us arguing with him about it a year ago. We were against it because it would bring unwanted attention from hunters. I was pulled out of my thoughts when Jaxon clasped my shoulder, nodding that he knew what I was thinking. I turned to Ryker, and he did the same. "We are sorry, Daren." We all said to him, and he turned around, confused. "We are sorry we didn't know or try to understand what 'The Lost Youth Program' meant to you and that you had to carry all the burden yourself," I said as we all knelt down and apologetically put our hands on his shoulder, looking into his eyes. The three of us hugged Daren and Wisteria and said, "Thank you for bringing her home." "'Home,' I like the sound of that," Wisteria said with a sigh of contempt. As the four of us breathed her scent in, we said, "We missed you, Flower." "I missed you too." Suddenly the leaves swirled around us, and we appeared in front of the tree line behind the hospital. I felt dizzy and ready to puke. "Never do… Blahhh… That again… Blahhh…” Ryker said as he hurled his breakfast. *** Wisterias POV 17 years old I couldn't help but laugh at the two younger brothers after I teleported us to the tree line behind the hospital. Xaiden was hunched over by a tree groaning, and Ryker was Hurlling his breakfast as he said, "Never do… Blahhh… That again… Blahhh…” Jaxon and Daren joined me as I laughed hysterically at the two younger brothers. As the three of us looked at them and then at each other, the laughing continued, and we all fell to the ground. "How are you two okay while we hurl up our breakfast?" Ryker exclaimed "Speak for yourself. I'm Just dizzy!" Xaiden said, glaring at his brothers and me for laughing at them. "I deal with a lot of witch-shifter hybrids at the' youth program' you get used to it when they play pranks on you all the time," Daren said as he tried to stifle his laughter. "And I am the attending party most of the time for the supernatural summit. We often travel by teleportation, and the first several times are rough." Jaxon explained, still laughing. "Why didn't you warn us before doing this, Wisteria?" Ryker asked, perplexed. "Because everything was so serious, and I felt like we could use some cheating up," I said, shrugging my shoulders, which made Jaxon, Daren, and I laugh again. Once everyone calmed down, I spoke up, "Look, I wasn't only aiming for you two; I just didn't know Jaxon and Daren had experience with teleportation." I said, still giggling. "You little..!" Jaxon and Daren exclaimed as they both tackled me and started tickling me. When Ryker and Xaiden joined their brothers in tickling me, we all erupted into laughter. When they were done, we lay there for a bit and laughed. As I looked at the brothers, I wished they could be my second-chance mates. And then I noticed the sun was setting. "s**t, It's been two whole days!" I cursed as I stood to my feet. "We need to go!" —---- On the way to the pack house, we walked silently, which was peaceful. I had Jaxon to my left, Daren to my right, Ryker behind me to the left, and Xaiden the same on my right. When we got to the pack house, Jaxon opened the door for me as I said, "What a gentleman." We smiled at each other. "Always for our little Flower," he said as I blushed. "Ohhh, Wisteria, I was worried sick when the boys told us everything that happened!" Luna Stacey said as she walked towards us. "Yeah, well, it's not every day your childhood friends run you over with a truck," I said "No, it's not, is it?" she said as she hugged me. "Come now. Quinn and Leo are in the office." I hadn't seen uncle Quinn, Alpha Leopold, and Luna Stacey in ten years. But I constantly communicated with them throughout my travels. But the 'Alpha Brothers,' as people call them, didn't know that. For ten years, they thought I was missing. I want to tell them everything, though. Alpha Leopold and uncle Quinn stood up and hugged me as we entered the office. The twins looked thrown back as they saw how their father and mother embraced me. Uncle Quinn gave me a look I knew was asking me if he could explain everything to them, and I nodded my head, giving him the go-ahead. "Boys, you might want to sit down for what we are about to tell you." Alpha Leopold said, gesturing to the couch, and the brothers complied. Though they still looked confused. "Listen, boys, what I'm about to share with you must not leave this room. Do you understand?" uncle Quinn asked, and the boys nodded in agreement. "Good. Now Daren, do you remember the day I told you never to speak of again?" Daren nodded and said, "Yes, Mr. Apollo and my brothers also know of the day. The five of us talked about it today. Xaiden asked what I knew of Wisteria's disappearance, and I couldn't lie to them anymore after she came back into our lives. I'm sorry I disobeyed. Please forgive me." "No, it was unfair of him to ask that of you. I saw what it did to you in the woods, and you should have been able to talk to him about it instead of keeping it bottled up for ten years to yourself." I said as I gave uncle Quinn a stern look. "She is right. It was wrong of me. And I would like to apologize for that. That man you saw that day is Wisteria's father. He is a vampire-werewolf hybrid who has been after her for ten years. It is why she is hunted more consistently. She is a witch-vampire-werewolf tribrid. Her father's identity is unknown. He never came out until she manifested her witch abilities that day. And he hasn't been seen since." My uncle paused, letting this all sink in. "He has been hunting me, trying to get control over my powers. The only reason I returned is that everything stopped one month ago, and I need to find out what he has planned. But I can't do that on the run. I need a home base to be safe. And Alpha Leopold and Luna Stacey have been in contact with me for the last ten years, ensuring I get money and am okay. The last time we talked, they said I would be safest here for now." I explained, and they all looked shocked, except for Daren. "This is a lot to take in," Xaiden said, palming his face. "That guy… Your father is injured and out of commission for a while." Daren said, shocking all of us. "What do you mean, dear?" Luna Stacey asked cautiously. "All the trips I've gone on in the past two years were to find the man I saw that night ten years ago. I found him one month ago in a run-down pack in Oragan. I waited for him to fall asleep and stuck him with a concoction of wolfsbane and silver. Then I bound him in silver and iron chains and put him in a silver coffin bound in iron chains. He is in a cave in another region. I wanted to get revenge on him for everything he had done to you." He said with his fist cliched and eyes closed. "I couldn't bring myself to kill him, so I trapped him." "How did you know about everything?" Quinn asked in a concerned voice. "I started to get suspicious of the three of you about two and a half years ago. You always took secret calls and never let anyone in when you were on the phone. So I bugged the phones in each of your offices, and I've known everything for two years." He said. "We have our phones checked daily for bugs. How did we not notice?" Quinn asked, astonished. "And who did the checking of your phones? It was me you only ever trusted the four of us to check your phones, and I've done it every day since I bugged them," he said, looking ashamed but also right at the same time. "HAHAHAHA!" Alpha Leopold started laughing hysterically as we looked at him like he was crazy. "I knew I picked the right son to be a spy!" And he started laughing again. "Are you not angry, father?" Daren asked, befuddled. "Goddess, No! I'm proud! You out-mastered the masters and captured one of the most dangerous men in the supernatural community by yourself!" Alpha Leopold exclaimed, clapping his son on the back. "You did good, son." "I just wanted Wisteria to be able to come home," he said, and I couldn't help myself; I flung myself into his arms and nuzzled my face in his neck, embracing him tightly. "Thank you," I whispered and kissed him on the cheek. When I pulled away and got off his lap, he was red in the face and started adjusting his pants, and all the men in the room gave him a knowing look that I didn't know the meaning of. The brothers' eyes glazed over as they mind-linked each other, and they all stood up. "We are going to go bathe. We haven't had showers in two days because we were in the woods with a girl." Ryker said as they went to leave. I looked around, confused, and noticed the Alpha and my uncle stifling their laughter. "Come with me, Wisteria. I'll show you your room." Luna Stacey said, guiding me out of the office. When we arrived at my room, I noticed only four other rooms in this wing of the pack house. When Luna Stacey opened the door to my room, my mouth dropped. The space alone was huge. I had a bed big enough to fit seven people in it, and there was a fireplace to the right with a small living area with a closet to the left of the living area the size of a standard room, and the bathroom was to the right of the bed. I had a mini pool for a bathtub and a shower with a ceiling faucet. The room was decorated in my favorite colors, with different shades of purple, green, and white. When I walked into the closet, it was packed full of clothes, all in my style and the correct size. I looked at Luna Stacey, teary-eyed. "How did you know? When….” I stammered. I didn't know what to say. "I have my ways, and you look like you could use a good night's sleep. We will talk about everything after your birthday in three days." She said as she left the room. After showering, I put on a lavender silk tank top and short night set and drifted off to bed. For the first time, I didn't feel a looming threat over my head, thanks to Daren.
