Mr Paul had just arrived the office and asked to speak with Ms Seyla Derek. Seyla was dressed in a forest green corporate dress, slightly revealing the top of her chest, a pencil heeled silhouette nude color shoes, in a long straight bone weave, laid to perfection. Her skin doesn't need an introduction, so she's not doing too much with the make over, simply put, elegance and class personified.
Mr Paul raised his head to a gracious smile from Seyla as he stood up extending his right hand for a quick handshake with a harmless but troubling comment, “Little wonder, John would spin the world for you” she gave a quick smile and asked, you know Mr John? Mr Paul sat on his chair, while pointing her to the one opposite for comfort. She waved off the conversation so they could get right into the reason she was there.
Mr Paul only handed her an envelope and congratulated her, no interviews, no formal talks, just that. She was stunned because how on earth is this dream job pulling through so easily. Mr Paul added, I'd do anything for an honest man like John. Also, I know you'll be perfect for the job since you came highly recommended by him. Seyla nodded in agreement, said thank you and left.
“I can't believe this, am I supposed to be offended or happy by this? What's he trying to prove? Am I too much of a liability? He couldn't wait for me to get my hands on something meaningful? why didn't he tell me he had thrown in a word for me and he watched me dance in excitement the other day like it was my efforts? These thoughts raced through Seyla’s mind; she couldn't even think straight. She was betwixt calling him and pretending that did not happen while she awaits an explanation or venting out loud for causing her what she considers an embarrassment. Immediately she got home, she managed to eat and no, she couldn't hold it together, she called.
John's happy voice as usual from the other end screamed, “Tell me you got the job, my love” and she goes, “How dare you?” Are you addressing me, he asked? She says, of course! It's you, John, Mr trophy boyfriend. I knew you could pull the string, I did not need your help. I just needed to do it for myself. So, what now, you got me my dream job and I'm forever indebted to you? John went silent, after a long rant and no response, she realized she's been on top of her voice. She keeps quiet expecting a response and he says to speak to her later, she says no and demands for a response now, he told her, he had nothing to say and he would like to go off the call. Seyla has never wanted that side of John, but every time she escalates issues, sadly, it's never intentional. She couldn't contain herself as she knew this time, he wasn't having it and the last thing she wants to hear is a break up. She knew she had enemies just because this man chose her, whether it was the fear of truly losing something beautiful, or the shame before these enemies, or the fear of finding someone else like John or the guilt of not putting her emotions under control? All of these wouldn't matter if he could forgive her once again for the outburst. John had communicated his dislike for quarrels and outburst but maybe he wasn't serious because he did not sound serious when he said it. He hated quarrels and he thought anything could be talked about without blowing off the roof. Seyla was always shouted at the slightest provocation, back at home. She only knows you'd make a change if scolded you for a mistake. She knew about dialogue but how does she even believe that works when she never experienced one with her mom. If she needed to do something right, then it had to be a harsh tone. Seyla never liked it and little did she know she'd turn out exactly like what she disliked about her mom. Seyla has a good relationship with her mom but they were traits she didn't want to pick up. She knew she had fumbled, she kept trying to get through to John, he wouldn't pick her calls, he wouldn't respond to her messages and she was getting sick in her stomach. She wasn't sure whether or not to stop by his house, as she wouldn't be able to handle an embarrassment. Minutes to hours and it's the next day, he had not responded, neither called in. She didn't know if she was pushing too much, however, she sent a text, he responded. It was a casual check in, no discussion about what had happened, no emojis to the texts, slightly formal and dry.
Seyla’s day went sore. It wasn't that deep for her, she only wanted the job on merit. Her approach is not always the best but she meant no harm and would not intentionally disrespect John. He should know that! She thought. It was a flaw she's willing to work on, but, if that was all her flaw, is it something he shouldn't be able to handle? It's 2pm already and she had not spoken to the love of her life over a call, he wasn't even bulging to one and what was going to happen to this love if he's truly contemplating a break up. After countless efforts to reach out to him, she tries to distract herself with activities, so she gets on a call with Vee and Tesla, not about the issues in her relationship, just chit chat. She keeps checking in on his online presence, he's online but not reaching out. So, is this really about what happened or there's more to it as she's becoming more impatient with his attitude. She was hurt by the minute, wasn't he going to consider the fact that she can't handle his silence? The day went by and there was no word from John
Arik, prowling her status is strange! What's with the views? she didn't make so much of it, by the way, Arik is definitely the least of her problems right now. This morning, she's considering texting John or just protect her dignity, she had apologized, sent messages, opted for a call and that's okay. We'll, John reached out. She felt happy, he was finally speaking. After a few pleasantries, John sent a finely lengthy text, this time, not an apology. A break up.
