Chapter 13At first, the cargo hold of the larger ship was black, pitch black. Then light flooded the hold. Jack blinked rapidly until his eyes adjusted. What little he could see out the porthole looked like empty cargo bay walls. A hissing soon commenced—the cargo bay filling with air. Jack watched the external pressure reading increase gradually to one atmosphere. “What if they're not even human?” Misty asked. When humans had left their Earthly cradle some ten thousand years ago, they'd embarked on an exploration of the Milky Way, full of dread and excitement in equal measure—dread for the evil predatory races that would feed on humans until their stomachs were full and humankind was extinct, and excitement at the new and fascinating civilizations they were sure to find.
