Stumbling, I walked out of the bathroom. I have only been here a few hours but what I already knew for sure was that this whole family was sick not just sick, mentally sick. The person from the toilet had to be someone from the family. Right? I still felt my heart pounding in my throat as I walked back into the dining hall. The sooner this evening was done the better.
I took the wooden chair in my hands and sat down with a slight creak. The family was deeply absorbed in the conversation. Finally some peace and quiet I thought and let my hand slide to the glass of water in front of me. Greedily I drank the whole glass empty. I could use some cooling down, my face was still as red as a tomato when I went outside.
I felt two pairs of eyes rest on me and looked up. Vladimir's golden eyes were looking straight at me. Rather, they were looking through me. He continued to stare at me for a while until he averted his gaze again and joined in the conversation.

The rest of the evening went pretty quiet compared to what had already happened. The guests slowly left the house and gave hugs to family members before they really left in style. Other than Rosaline, Max and I, there were almost no guests left. When Rosaline stood up I knew it was time for us to leave too. With quick strides, afraid of being left behind I followed Rosaline and Max closely behind.
Vladimir, Alex and their father were lined up at the door letting people out. Alex smilingly shook hands with one of the last family members, when he also stepped out of the door it was our turn.
The father turned his head to us smiling. "Too bad the evening is already ending here, but you were a fine company," he says as he gives Max a satisfied nod. It's Rosaline's turn now and she gets a firm handshake and another compliment from Alex which made her blush.
It was now my turn, I walked right past Vladimir, which earned me a disapproving look from him. When I arrived at his father's house I put on a broad smile "Sorry if I inconvenienced you this evening" I said as I nervously played with my dress. A loud laugh echoed through the corridors "Being a burden to me? You'll need a little more for that Amara" he declared "You're always welcome here as long as you know that"
I shook my head "You are far too kind sir, really. There are not many like you" I said as I gave him a warm smile. After saying hello to the whole row I walked tiredly towards the door. I just set foot outside but was stopped by some words.
"See you tomorrow Amara" called Vladimir after me as the door closed with a dull bang.
See you tomorrow? This was wrong, very wrong.
The whole car ride Vladimir's words haunted my mind. What was he planning for tomorrow? Perhaps he was just joking, but Vladimir didn't really seem like the type to joke around. Sighing I let my head slide against the car window.
"Okay, is anyone going to tell me what I missed? Or are you guys going to keep being mysterious, if that's the case I'll just go back home you know?" Max looked at us suspiciously. I let my eyes slide to Rosaline who was gazing at the ground, already embarrassed.
I rolled my eyes, Max didn't expect an explanation from Rosaline. I straightened up and tucked a strand of hair behind my ears. "From now on I am a Verondale and I am engaged to Vladimir Duchanov." I said softly
