I watched as Raelynn stormed from the room. I gripped the end of his hospital bed, to try and give myself some support. She has to be wrong, there’s no way. “I’m so sorry for her outburst.” Nathan’s mother frowned as she walked over to sit in the chair next to him. “I don’t know if you remember, but we spoke on the phone once, I’m Jen.” She smiled as she stroked Nathan’s cheek. “Yes, I remember.” My voice came out hoarse. “The day of the accident, after his surgery, he had an aneurysm in his brain. So they had to take him back into surgery, he died on the operating table.” Her words broke off as a sob escaped her lips. “They told us shortly after, that there was no longer any brain activity.” Her hand shook as she caressed his cheek.
