Dinner was going as well as I hoped it would. We were smiling and laughing, cracking jokes and teasing Violet. Towards the end I looked over at Violet and noticed her frowning at her phone.
“Are you alright?” I whispered, leaning near her.
“What? Oh, yes, Piper just texted me about some drama with her ex boyfriend.” She quickly closed her phone, laying it face down on the table. The action made my stomach twist, she probably didn’t trust me near her phone. I had an inkling that she was lying, but I decided not to push it.

As I sat in the bathroom I gazed at the text message.
