Adrian's POV The door clicks shut behind her. This conference room still smells like her - honey and defiance. My wolf is pacing, snarling and ready to go after her."Mine" he snarls "Go get her before they do. " "And start a war we barely survived?" I snarl back. Mabaso. This girl lied about her name. Vele is her mother's clan. Weak and Safe. But Mabaso name runs old. Royal. Dangerous. And her wolf just called me mate. I flex my hand. Her pulse still burns against my hand. No female has ever triggered my wolf like that. No female has ever looked me straight in the eyes - my real eyes an not run. She saw the flames and she didn't scream. Fifteen years ago Fire. Screaming. I was fifteen, blood on my hands that wasn't mine. My father stood over bodies in the middle of Pretoria's forest. Mabaso colors burning in the ground. "Blackthornes don't bow Adrian we burn whatever is in our way down." That was the day I learned that Mabaso women don't scream. They curse you with their last breath. Foolish, brave little wolf. When the elevator was descending she looked at me with fear. She is scared of me. Let her fear me. Let her be scared of me. Let her think am a bastard who hire girls he humiliate. It is the only safe option right now. The truth is:a Mabaso in my building paints a target on her back. My enemies will come for her. My father's enemies will come for her. I mean she is the last one of her pack. Ten years ago Gogo Mabaso in chains in my father's dungeon. A family mark or birth mark on her chest, a mark that every girl with the Mabaso blood inherit. "you'll kill us all just for land Blackthorne?" she spat blood on my father's shoes "The last one of us will be your own undoing. " My father laughed at her. "I might be f*****g dying today Blackthorne but this is not the last time you will see a Mabaso." And now fate is playing with me cause how can she be my mate. As for me, I will have to choose between my mate and war. I press my forehead to the glass. Eleven floors down, she is a small, furious shape disappearing in the shadows of Johannesburg I've ruled this city for a decade and half. Never wanted. Never needed. Until a small girl in cheap jeans and drugstore cologne walked into my building and ruined me. See you on Monday Onika Mabaso. I call my driver and security downstairs "follow her and get me her address." I will not start a war. But I will burn down the world before I let them hurt or touch her.
