Chapter 1 The Maiden of Forbidden Forest

1878 Words
I am Miara, the descendants of Maiden Louverielle for her thrown is passes to me when she died.   The sole reasons we sing to enchant men and attract them in our Fortress create noises that scattered like wildfire rumors in the whole Kingdom and the neighboring Kingdom.   Humans thoughts that mermaids are few like vampires, and we are maintaining our few kinds, but they are wrong. The sea is massive as much as the land.   The King and Queen of Land hailed different King and Queens, leaders, and so we are.   The Mermaids each have territories, and I am the Maiden of the Forbidden Forest. I am Miara, and I consider myself the most beautiful, powerful of all the three Maidens that exist. They are Maidens that reigns in the Enchanted Forest, Human World, and  Forbidden Forest.   Forbidden Forest is the land of the most powerful mythical creatures, and I belong to them. The Forbidden Forest consists of an ogre, Forbidden forest fairies, Witch Village, Elf Village, Vampire Village, and Wolf Village. We are all living a harmonious life under the reign of the King of Forbidden Forest Ruininki and her Queen Mia.   The mythical creatures in the Forbidden Forest, although we are all-powerful, we heed one leader who has sole control over the energy raging in the Forbidden Forest. Those energies, dominated by the King and Queen of dark energy. It is King Ruininki and Queen Mia of Forbidden Forest.   I have no problem that there is an overall leader in the Forbidden Forest who reigns for it happens in the other Maiden’s territories too. As mermaids and as a creature that lives underwater. We respect the co-existence of one another.   We aim for harmony to live in peace with others who breathe life; our sole reason is to enchant men in our voices and songs. Men do follow us and come to our World. The Mermaid’s Fortress reveals man unfaithful heart. The man may or may not come back to his own family, and his life depends on his own will.   It is a myth for humans, but those few who are gifted to know the truth about us mermaids can survive.   I am about to tell a tale of why we do what we do; some may never understand us, but let me bring back the time when Maiden Louvierelle still the Maiden before me.   At that time, I am still a little girl, curious mermaids. I admire Maiden Louvierelle from an afar; my heart warms whenever I see her. I aim to be like her.   I remember I proudly state in front of other mermaids in our Mermaid’s University.   “I will become like Maiden Louvierelle, beautiful and strong like her; I will become a Maiden.” my young mind cannot grasp how is the responsibilities of the Maiden for me; it is something noble, great. I aspire to be like that.   My playmates and classmates laugh at me and giggles; they take it as if I am a joke.   I shrug it off. In my mind, I am suitable to be a Maiden like our leader Louvierelle.   I watch Maiden Louvierelle from afar among us. She has a vibrant color of fins. Her tails glitter in gold and green, tails sparkle while ours is just ordinary.   Maiden Louvierelle’s curly hair is long and waving through the water, her beauty is splendidly gorgeous, her eyes are blue-green. She is indeed the most beautiful in our Fortress.   Maiden Louvirelle, she is our leader and treats all the mermaids kindly. She never lets us feel she is more than us. There are times she leaves our Fortress and visits the other Maiden in the Enchanted Fortress and Human World. The three Maidens are sisters in blood. I ask that to my mother how is that the Maiden Leaders in each Fortress are real sisters in blood.   My mother warned me not to asks again; my innocent mind cannot comprehend. The fact they judge my capability to understand base on my age, my comprehension does not have anything to deal with that. I am curious, and I wanted to know the story of the Mermaids for I belong in that life form and species. The history hidden from us, I do not digest the present laid to me.   I look around and see that most of the mermaids my age do not care about history. They have fun playing and swimming, combing their hair, choosing shells that they will clip in their hair, and practice singing to make our voices beautifully enchanting for it is our way to lure men with unfaithful heart.   I sigh, I do not have a choice but to mingle with them and act as if I enjoy what we are doing. We practice singing.   Our instructor is in front of us while she is lecturing us about voice lessons. We are in a cave where we consider our school. Caves echo voices, and it is a great place to practice singing.   “The most beautiful voice enchants men, and you can attract men with unfaithful heart and do your purpose as a mermaid.” our teacher explains.   “purpose...” it rings in my ear.   “How is that enchanting men in our voices is the purpose of a mermaid? We destroy their life and brokes their family apart. How is that a purpose?” that question slips my mouth,   Our teacher glared at me as she pointed her stalactite stick in front of my face.   “What are you saying? We enchant only unfaithful men. Those men enchant in our voices from the first place, for they do not truly love their wives and do not value their family. It is not our fault; they have that heart. It is our sole purpose to reveal their dark heart. We are the mermaids of the Forbidden Forest; we are not like the mermaids of the Enchanted Forest, only there for aesthetic and mermaids in the Human World, who go hiding deep under the sea for them not to reveal themselves. We are different, mermaids in the Forbidden Forest has a sole purpose.” Our teacher emphasizes every word.   “The mermaids in other Fortress do not enchant men?” I ask   “Mermaids in the human World do not want to get exposed for they do not want to be used by humans in their studies and research. They hide and live peacefully. The mermaids in the Enchanted Fortress as rumors are going around, mythical creatures in Enchanted Fortress are abducted by the unknown and sold for greedy purposes as the same as the mermaids in the Human World, they hide and protect themselves.” our teacher explains.   “We, the mermaids in the Forbidden Forest, must be thankful to our Maiden Louvierielle for she has the heart of a warrior. She encourages each one of us to work for the greater good of our Fortress, and we give back to the men or humans what they deserve.” Our teacher proclaims.   " Teacher, you speak like humans are so bad.” I blurted out.   “Are they not?” the teacher squinted her eyes.   I sigh, I do not know the reasons our Worlds separated by barriers, why we are all different from one another. But it is hard for me to believe that we cannot be kind to one another for I dream we can be understanding and more gentle. I hope for that future that I do not need to sing to lure men and reveal their unfaithful heart, for I hope we cannot capture those kinds for they are none that exist anymore, but that is hopeful thinking, I know.   All my classmates leave already; they are all quite when I and my teacher, have our discussions. The lecture exceeds thirty minutes more than the usual class hours. My classmates glared at me for those reasons.   “Miara, next time, avoid asking nonsense questions and stop riling our teacher. Our lecture class extends for thirty minutes just for your stupid questions.” one of my classmates told me off.   “Yeah, do not act like you are the smartest in our class. You always stating that you will be the future Maiden next to Maiden Louvierelle, but look how you act, you angered our teacher.” another of my classmate fuel the topic.   “This is a singing class. We suppose to train our voices; your questions are all unnecessary. Our mother will be mad that we will go home late. You should stop acting like a brat.” another one of my classmates glared at me and raised her voice.   I do not speak, I look at them blankly and do not say a word; They are pissed, even more, they give me a piercing look and left me behind.   I am alone in the cave, I want to understand something, and I do not have anyone to question but those mermaids who live before us. I know they know a lot of things that they do not share with us.   It is such a beauty to live in a World of peace and beauty. The mermaids contented that they do not know about the past of our Fortress. They are happy living. I hope I can be like them too. I burdened myself too much.   I stay at the cave and close my eyes, laying in the stalactites rock. I heard something, growling and someone seems like in pain.   My forehead knotted. It is too early for me to dream. I open my eyes, I slowly get up, and once again close my eyes for the thought of maybe I am hallucinating.   The growl is there, but it is far away, and it is fading. I want to look further. I stand up. Whenever we are inside the caves, the water in the caves, do not get in. It is one of the mermaid’s power to control the water and make it a shield surrounding the caves. We walk in our bare feet in the cold rocks and stalactites. We wear a special kind of fabric that only exist in Mermaids World. It is a waterproof fabric; it is a stunning dress that will reveal our beauty.   Our tails are only there when we hit the water and swims. Most of the time, we spend our hours in the Forbidden Forest and only swim with purpose: to gather food, to do our job-swim in the surface where humans lurk around, and sing to lure unfaithful men that is our most important job. We are only allowed to swim and play near our Fortress and our houses, but prohibit to swim in open water where humans live, and we are not allowed to cross the boundaries of each Fortress.   The growl is getting stronger as I walk deeper and deeper inside the cave. My feet have a mind of each own, no matter how much I stop myself from going further. My curiosity is much stronger. The growl is nearer, and I open my eyes as I bump into a big dark shadow. I turn, and held my hand and feel. It is cold, and it has scales, large scales, and it cannot be a mermaid tail. The scale is rough, and to my surprised large red eyes greeted me, and I want to back down. I cover my mouth with my hand as I heard a voice, I hide.   Copyright: This story is solely my ideas and creative thinking. Please do not copy, use, distribute, or reproduce. © January Garneth.2020.
