The next morning, seagulls circled overhead as waves crashed against the golden beach.
I woke from a dream to find the sun already high in the sky.
Stretching lazily, I muttered to myself, "Last night was dangerous. I can't believe I actually fell asleep. If this were back in the army, they'd never let me live it down..."
Of course, I knew the real reason. The tiny bit of sea snake venom left in my system must've knocked me out at dawn.
Speaking of which, I couldn't help but wonder how Florence was doing.
I turned my head toward the tent.
Florence, true to her status as the heiress to the Blackwell Group, had a tall, slender figure, fair and smooth skin, long legs, and an impressive chest that stood out like a pair of peaches.
I quickly shook my head, clearing the messy thoughts from my mind, and called out, "Florence, are you awake?"
After calling her name a few times and getting no response, I leaned in to check her breathing with my fingers. She was still alive, which was a relief.
'If we're going to survive here, I need to find enough food and water,' I told myself.
I understood all too well that every minute mattered in a survival situation.
Since Florence wasn't in any condition to help, it was all on me.
When I set up the tent yesterday, I chose this spot because of the banana plants and coconut trees nearby. I tore off banana leaves, shaped them into squares, and used them to collect precious freshwater.
As I busied myself with gathering water, Florence's voice came.
"Help! There's a snake!"
I had just finished collecting some water when I heard her panicked cry and rushed back to the tent.
She spotted the coconut trees not far from the tent and screamed in fear.
Seeing her wide-eyed and terrified, I explained calmly, "That sea snake is already dead. You don't need to worry."
Hearing this, Florence's memories from last night came flooding back—the terrifying triangular-headed sea snake and her own injury.
Florence's face darkened as she suddenly remembered where the bite had been. Glaring at me, she snapped, "Did you lift my dress and take advantage of me last night?"
I sighed, trying to stay patient. "I wasn't taking advantage of you. I lifted your dress to suck the venom out of the snake bite."
Florence seemed to understand that I had done it to save her, but she still huffed, "You're a pervert!"
Seeing that she looked much better now, I decided not to argue. After all, I couldn't deny that I'd had some inappropriate thoughts.
"Since you're awake, eat some berries. You didn't eat anything last night, and you were poisoned. You need to regain your strength," I suggested.
Florence froze when she saw the berries I handed her from the side of the tent.
'He's still taking care of me even after I scolded him?' she wondered.
But remembering how uncomfortable her stomach had felt after eating some berries last night, she hesitated. "Thank you for saving me, but I don't want to eat these berries right now. I'd rather have some water."
Hearing this, I handed her the fresh water I had just collected. "Rest well and take care of yourself. I'll find a clean water source soon to keep us going."
Florence looked surprised as she accepted the banana leaf holding the water.
She may suddenly realize how resourceful I was, managing to collect clean water in such a short time.
Watching her drink, I noticed her pale lips regain some color. "Your condition isn't great," I said. "Stay here and rest while I go into the jungle to look for supplies."
Florence glanced nervously at the coconut trees next to the tent, remembering last night's ordeal. She quickly said, "I'm feeling better now. I can help you!"
Seeing the urgency in her eyes, I smiled. "Are you worried I'll leave you behind?"
Florence shot back, "I'm worried you'll run into danger in the jungle if you go alone."
Seeing how insistent she was, I gave in with a helpless smile. "Fine, but stay safe. Here, take this stick. Use it to tap the ground ahead of you while we walk."
I found two sturdy sticks near the tent, handed one to Florence, and then stepped into the jungle.
As we moved through the unfamiliar terrain, I couldn't help but think about the sea snake from last night. If there were snakes here, there were probably small animals like rabbits or mice nearby.
It didn't take long to find a trail frequently used by small wild animals.
Using a few small sticks and my shoelaces, I set up traps along the path.
Florence crouched beside me, watching curiously.
Her posture was so captivating that her slip dress struggled to conceal her ample breasts.
I was focused on setting up the trap when I suddenly noticed the stunning view beside me and instinctively glanced at her chest.
'What big b*obs...' I thought.
Florence caught my gaze and shifted away uncomfortably.
But as she moved, her eyes landed on a snake not far from us staring back at her. Its triangular head and menacing eyes were just like the one from last night.
"A snake!" she screamed.
Before I could react, the high-and-mighty Florence threw herself into my arms.
