Chapter 2

She roamed the cold streets of France, Rose's once beautiful dress clinging to her in the bitter wind of the ice. There was nothing on her except the clutch in her hand side, no keys, no phone and the worst not even a place to go. Her world was shattered. Rose was alone, homeless, penniless and pregnant. Rose's hand moved swiftly to her flat stomach. She hadn’t told Kelly. She’d only found out two days ago. Rose had planned a romantic dinner, a surprise to share the joy with her husband. But now… Kelly didn’t deserve to know, she won't let him know. Rose stumbled near a bench, she collapsed onto it. And relaxing on it for a minute, then, she let the tears fall—out, bitterly betrayed, it flowed unstoppable. How could everything she had—her marriage, her fortune, her dignity—all gone within a twinkle of eyes? She wrapped her arms softly around herself, as she continued sobbing into the cold darkness. Just then, a pure black SUV wheeled to a halt a few feet from where she was seated. The passenger door flung open, a man in a dark suit rushed toward the bench where she was. “Hello, Miss? A..are you alright?” The same voice of the muscular figure that almost ran her over, stood in front of her. His calm, deep, and oddly familiar voice filled the air. Rose looked at him, she was startled, her eyes meeting the man’s piercing blue sparkling gaze. The man was tall, with a broad-shouldered height, his aura speaks volumes of power. The blaze coat on him blew slightly in the air, but his face was composed and stiff as he stared at her. “I. I don’t know,” she said quietly, voice barely hearable. “Ok..Ok..I’m Richard Dark,” the strange man said, bending to her level. “Please be more careful dear, we almost ran over you. Hope you're where hurt?” Rose shook her head. “She wasn't hurt physically but bleeding within her.” Richard nodded respectively, then, he extended his hand in her direction. “Please come with me, it's not safe here. I can help you.” She deliberated for a moment, her pride screaming at her to refuse the stranger. But her body was weak, saying otherwise. Without thinking she took his hand. Richard brought her to one of his luxurious guest suites. A warm and safe environment. It was a place she couldn’t even dream of affording for now. Richard didn't take advantage of her, need did he treat her like a charity. “I want You to relax, take your time. Rose remember, you don’t have to tell me anything,” he said, staring at her as she sipped the hot tea a butler handed her, immediately she got up from bed. “Always know I'm here for you when you need a shoulder to lean on. Rose stared at him, tired but curious of the stranger's kindness. “Why are you being so kind to me?” you barely know me… “I have been there,” he said, walking toward the window, "I know when someone is hurt. And in my case, someone helped me when I was at my lowest. You see my beautiful lady, I don’t forget kindness and I don’t ignore pain when I see it.” His words struck something deep in her soul. She hadn’t heard such sincerity in a man’s voice for a very long time. She shook her head, not knowing what to reply to the stranger. Richard turned towards her, facing her. “Stay as long as you need and be free. Listen, you’re safe here. I will always make sure of that. And when you’re ready to talk, I’ll be here for you Rose.” “I. I do appreciate, Richard,” she said, her voice calm. “I don’t even know what I’m going to do now sobbing. I’ve lost everything I have to my name.” “No, don't sound like that, you haven’t lost you,” Richard replied softly. “And that’s the most important thing right now.” Richard's words lingered in the air long after he left the room. Rose lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling, meditating on how to put the piece of her shattered life back together. Rose stood before the mirror in Richard’s guest room, her red hair now cut into a bob curly hair. Her once soft look was gone, replaced by fire and rage. She was wearing a simple black dress, but it fit into her curves with power, not fragility anymore. Rose had spent the past days crying, healing, thinking, and then—planning on what to do. With Richard’s help, she had secured accommodation with Lady Blue and was able to reclaim a few old business contacts.Rose was ready to build something that was truly hers from scratch. She had an appointment today with a legal team, she wasn't letting her inheritance go without a fight. Rose stepped out of the building, and the cold air no longer chilled her—it reminded her she was alive and strong. She climbed into the car Richard had bought and gave the driver the address to her former company headquarters out the other side of the state. Soon, she was going to take back what was hers.
