The Police Station

973 Words
I sit in that wardrobe for what feels like hours, silently crying, looking at my mother's body. Thoughts churning in my head, Why did he want me? Whos Alpha Trent? What is an Alpha? Why were there wolves in my room? What did he mean I wasn't mom's? Most importantly... why did he want me so badly? I slowly get out of the wardrobe, wiping my tears, trying to see through obviously bloodshot and swollen eyes. I look all around, expecting to find my dad's body somewhere, but find nothing. Did they take him? He wouldn't have just left mom to fend for herself... that's not like him. They did everything together. Mom used to yell at him because she couldn't even pee in peace. I thought, giggling at the last part, picturing mom shooing him out of the bathroom and his puppy dog eyes as he waited near the door. I'm at a loss for what to do. I pick up my phone and dial 911, explaining to them about the man, about my mother, my missing father, and how they hid me almost like they knew he was coming. I left out the part about the wolves...I had a nagging feeling I shouldn't say anything. When the police arrive, they usher me out of the house. My house, the only home I've ever known. I get a gut feeling I wont be coming back... We get to the police station and they start to question me. The officer is on edge at first, prodding me with questions. I begin hyperventilating, the panic rising again as I begin to recall everything, tears threatening to spill out of my eyes. The police man gives me cup of water and helps me focus on my breathing. Once I was calm he asked me if I know of any close family members. I tell him that my parents never mentioned family, and I didn't think they had any left. I tell the officer about a "Trent" my mother had told me to locate. "Hang tight, kid. I'm going to make a few calls." He shakes his head, looking at me pitifully. About an hour later, a woman with long blonde hair reaching her butt and shining green eyes comes to me with a smile that doesn't quite reach her eyes. "Hi, child..." she says, waving her hand expectantly. "O-oh... Aryia, ma'am." I stammer, realizing what she wanted from me. "Ah, Aryia. I'm with children's services. I've been called by Officer O-Brian he-" As she's speaking the officer, I assume O-brian, is jogging up to us, "Nevermind Penelope! We found a document notarizing custody to a "Trent Dustfang."" He raises an eyebrow at the last name. "The document stated he gets full custody had there ever been an accident with Mrs and Mr Dawn." Now it's my turn to raise my eyebrows. Surprised, I guess I don't have to search for him myself. "We found an address and phone number, though it seems like he lives in Arizona.. not here in Illinois, so it'll be a bit. He said he was getting a flight as we spoke." Arizona? How would my parents know anyone in Arizona? They never let us leave the state. Even family vacations were done here. I ponder. As time passed, Officer O-brian kept me comfortable with drinks, snacks, a blanket, and all the tissues a girl could need. He would fuss over me, saying if it was his daughter he'd hope someone would do the same. After some calming down, he sat down at his desk, occasionally looking over. The woman, Penelope, stayed around "just in case Trent didn't show up and she was needed." If you ask me, she just wanted some time to talk with O-brian. I watched them curiously, they were chatting happily, she would occasionally touch his arm, smiling. I would be lying if I said he wasn't an attractive man. He was about five foot ten, short curly hair that he kept neat with some gel, dark caramel skin, hazel eyes, and you could see he worked out, based on the fact his arms were about as big as my head. I giggled to myself quietly. They look good together. The more time that passes, the more I think about the situation. How am I going to keep going? Mom is gone... Dad is... missing? I hope he's just missing. I begin fiddling with my fingers. Those giant wolves, who has pets like that? They were the size of me, if not bigger! It seemed like the two smaller brown ones were chasing the gray one. They looked determined, whereas he just looked...sad. That man, Derek? I hope the police find him. He needs to pay for what he did to my mother. What was he talking about; silver and wolfsbane? What is this, some bad fairytale? Everything is going wrong all at once. What am I going to do? My thoughts creating a back and fourth tornado in my head. As the clock rounded eight thirty, almost four hours passed since the phone call. Penelope gets up, "Okay, kiddo, you're going to have to come with me for the night." I huff, unsure about the direction my life was heading. I look down, I had nothing. "We'll be able to get you some things, honey" She smiles lightly at me, assuming what I'm thinking about. My room was a crime scene so I couldn't take anything beyond the clothes on my back. I was wearing a simple baby blue tank top with some ruffles at the bottom, and a pair of short white shorts, with baby blue sandals that are tied up around my ankle. I stand up from my chair and begin to follow Penelope, when the doors to the station quite literally burst open.
