Aoki and Aanki

Unknowns POV. I sat there in the musty cell, my legs and hands chained together by a casein. A rectangular block made of titanium with restriction spells hard for any ordinary spell binder to break, who says I was ordinary. The cell had only one window reflecting the only source of light, but what's the point of a window when you're chained to the ground. I've waited for years, more than decades, yet I refuse to escape. I could escape and free myself off this predicament, I wouldn't, I didn't want to. I could smell the air of freedom, but I refuse to acknowledge it. Patience, I say to myself, patience. I played with the amulet that was trapped in my fist, running my fingers along the edges of the pendant. Half pendant to be exact for it's missing a piece. A piece that was stolen years ago by someone I thought was loyal to me. I need that piece and I must get it, to finish what I had started. The question kept ringing in my head, who would my most trusted servant live the other half with? I chuckled. He might be loyal, but he's also very clever. 'The mad angel' I used to call him. When ever he's around, one has to expect the unexpected. I guess I forgot that when the other half of the pendant was stolen. So was he... My thoughts were suddenly interrupted as a winged ray flew in through the window. It stayed afloat almost touching the ground. Its long tail held a spell card. It swiped the card through the lines be between thick casein that held my hands. A beeping sound was heard before my hands were released. I rubbed my wrists for a while, then wiggling each finger. "Took you long enough Basco". I said to the floating ray as I locked the amulet around my neck. "I'm gonna need some light in here Basco". The ray vibrated and tiny specs of light came out from it's stripes. "Arh! much better" I sighed. "Good to see you again Basco, hope everyone is in position?" A trilling sound, indicating a yes was made. Then I heard it. Three knocks then a pause, three more knocks a pause and then three last knocks. "Hey, it's not time for a shift". One of the guards outside said. " Call the..." the sounds of fists throwing punches was heard and the clashing of swords. Then there was a moment of silence, before the sound of someone approaching my cell. Thump Click Thump Click Goes the steps. Thump Click Thump Click And then it stopped. "I have come for you, master". A familiar voice said. "Great to see you too Mouka... That's if I could actually see you". "Don't worry master, I shall get you out in no time". True to his words, he did. I heard a beeping sound, then the floor began to vibrate. An opening was created, where it wasn't and light from the corridors were reflected into the room. Standing there was, Mouka a slave I had bought a long time ago. He was the first slave I ever acquired. He knows me well, maybe a little too well to say, he knows me more than I know myself. He stood straight, his dark skin covered by a red cloak. That wasn't the only thing his cloak was hiding. His left leg was lost during a fight he never talks about. Just like how he hardly talks about his past or how he could still see despite his clouded grey eyes. His life is such a mystery, just like that wooden leg. "We leave now master ". He said, turning around then walked past the other cells. Basco handed me the spell card which I swiped against the casein on my legs. When I was finally free, I felt a sensation, then I called out. "Wait". He stopped, turning around slowly. "Yes master?" his face held a blank expression. "I feel like this is too easy. I want to leave a message for the Aokians". I gave him a meaningful look. "What shall it be master?" "Burn it all, Mouka. I want the whole clan released and the whole prison burned down. Tonight we leave for Bulio desert". "As you wish master". He whispered handing me a black cloak. ### The journey from Aoki to Bulio takes fifty weeks and five days. That's on foot, Instead we created portals, since that was the quickest way there. After taking down most of the guards at the boarders, we past through the boarders entering the lifeless city of Bulio. It was covered in sand, everywhere was covered in sand. Very few plants mostly consisting of the wooly cactus, evermore dates and the spindled papayas. The night was cold and air smelt like pepper as the wind blew. Nothing has changed since I last visited. I was summoned by Mouka and the rest of the clan. "Master, we found some vulmells that can take us to the rascals". "Good job Mouka, remind me to raise your reward". "I shall forever serve you master". He replied, leading me to the beast. Vulmells are a cross between vultures and camels. They have the head of a camel with two feet's forming claws. The males having two humps while the female has one. They're such ugly creatures, but are of loving nature. Taking the reign of one, I lifted my self up to mount it. The others did the same. At my command, we raced through the desert, passing sand dunes after sand dunes. We were lucky to travel at night because of the cool weather. Then we reached a weathered gate which held a sign The rascals, beware! The 'c' and the 't' on the sign, almost faded. More posts were sighted, all indicating danger. But we ignored them and proceeded further, until we came to a pub. 'Demon bunkers'. I dismounted, telling the others to wait outside. All except for Mouka. My hood up and I pushed through the double doors and was greeted by a strong smell of rum and whiskey. The whole place was crowded. People drinking, chugging, dry humping. Some stripers were pole dancing to the beat of an Arabian music. "I can get you more sugar hun, just name the type". Said a striper, as she wrapped her arms around me. "Well, if that includes you being part of Basco's meal, be my guest". I said to her indicating the winged ray behind me. Her eyes widened as she quickly removed her hands off me. I moved forward, pushing through sweaty bodies till I reached the bar. "What can I get for you sir?" the bartender, a bald muscled man asked. An eyebrow raised, as he stared at me then Mouka. "I'm looking for a certain someone". I replied gaining his attention back. He looked at me with curiosity, he was reeking of it. "And who might that be?" he asked again, pouring himself a drink, his black beady eyes watching me with interest. "Conan King". The whole area was silent. All eyes were on me. The bartender choked on his drink ending up into a coughing fit. "Why, if I may ask?" I slowly lifted my hood just for him to see. His eyes widened and I could feel the emotions coursing through his head. Surprise, shock and most of all, fear. "Are you sure you want to find out?" I asked mockingly. "Er no, sorry my lord. Right this way". He jumped over the bar table before clicking a button. A door appeared behind two cabinets. The bartender opened the door, "After you my lord". We follow him through the deem lighted corridors into another room. The walls were reflecting the lights from the ceiling, Chinese portraits and artifacts were decorated around the room. A man stood facing a very large glass window. "I told you not to disturb me". "Yes Conan, but this is important". The bartender responded before leaving the room. The man turned around sitting down, his eyes closed. He was also bald and very pompous, jewels decorated his neck ranging from different amulets. "Sit", he said. There was a moment if silence before Mouka and I sat. "I have returned Conan, just like I had said". I was the first to speak. "I was hoping you would, but I'd be lying. How is it, that the person I've hated for so long managed to escape the most guarded prison in the whole of the magical dimension, not to mention the island of the lost spells?" "Oh stop being modest, I had help". I said in a bored tone. There was a long pause before, then he opened his eyes. They were ruby red, "What do you want from me? " "It's not about what I want, but what I should, must and will have". I took the amulet off me and placed it on the table. "You do know what this is don't you?" He picked it, examining it in the light. "The dragon of the setting sun. Always thought it was a legend, never acknowledged this. How much for this?" "It's not for sale", Mouka spoke, I had almost forgotten he was still here. Conan dropped it, his eyes never leaving the pendant. "Where's the other piece?" "That I cannot say, due to the fact that it had been stolen years before I was held captive by the Aokians ". "hmn, two powerful sources, strong when separated, but stronger when conjoined...", he paused. "You may go on". I encouraged eager to know more of the origin of the amulet. "I'll need some compensation, don't you think?" I waited a bit before inclining my head towards Mouka. He placed a bag of silver disc in front of Conan. Smiling with contempt, he continued. "The dragon of the setting sun comes from the ancient city of Aoki, home of the future. They've developed so well and have pushed the boundary of science and technology. I assume that's where you were locked up". "Yeah yeah, just continue". I said impatiently, there wasn't much time. I had one last stop to make. "So impatient, anyway, The people of the future Aokians have a uniqueness. That unique ability occurs to a particular individual, who will eventually become their leader. The ability to see the future. This certain person controls the dragon. As for the other half... The golden cat of the raising sun, belongs to the rivalry city of the Aoki, they are the Aanki. Home of the past, they are just the exact opposite of the Aoki. The one with the unique ability can see the past. The Aokians and the Aankians have been rivals for centuries. The cause of their rivalry remains unknown. The only thing stopping them from war is the city of the present, Cantatrix". "What happens when the amulets aren't with their owners?" "The dark days, oh the dark days. It's like asking what would happen to the human dimension when the sun refuses to rise or when the sun refuses to set. He who owns the sun, controls it". "So you're saying, whoever controls the amulets controls the sun?" Mouka asked. "Yes and no. You seem to have forgotten something. It's true that he who has the amulet controls the sun, that's if he has both amulets. The book of the setting and raising sun. Also known as the book of Dusk till Dawn, which I know it's in your possession, it the medium. If the pendants are to be placed in the holes on the cover of this book, then, one shall have the control of the sun. But there's a catch. Those unique ones from the Aoki and Aanki are the original controllers of the setting and raising sun respectively. If they ever learn to love, they become more powerful and have full control of the sun, regardless of the amulet or the book". "What happens if they hate? " "They loose their minds for eternity and their powers fade, then they eventually die off. The rest of their powers might later end up in the wrong hands". "So one can control the powers of the amulets only if their guardians are no more?" "Exactly". "I have a feeling you're not telling us something". Mouka stood up, releasing his sword. "I'm afraid that's all I know". Conan stood up heading for the window, then facing it. "Good day gentle men. It was nice chatting with you". We stood up to leave, Mouka exited first. I was about leaving when Conan spoke again. "If I may ask, where is the book?" "Some where it should be". ### Matthew's POV. Matthew! Maaattheeeww! I heard someone whisper my name. My eyes opened slowly, trying to adjust to the darkness. Get up Matthew, get up! I was confused, somehow, I got up without my own free will and I was till in my pyjamas. I looked around, but no one was there. "Uhm, hello?" Come closer, I want you to come closer! There goes the voice, whispery like the wind almost hard to hear. Then my feet started to move and I was heading for my desk. I stopped in front of it. The book which I found the day before Alice's birthday laid closed, the letter beside it. It had been like that, because I couldn't open it since then. Open me, take a look, just open me. My hands lifted up, as if they had a mind of their own. They held the book, and then opened it. A burst of green lights emitted from the book and slowly I feel my consciousness moving deeper into my mind. I felt a disturbing feeling, like someone was taking over my body. You have done well, for now you have carried on a new power. To others you remain the name Matthew. But to me you take the name... I smiled, bringing out my fangs as my slitted tongue ran over my lips before I replied. "Lucifer". *** Copyright 2018© Soffiyah Orewole. ***
