Chapter 2: The Hunt Begins

688 Words
The cold wind carried the scent of danger. Lysander remained frozen beneath the towering silver trees, his violet eyes searching the darkness where the hooded figure had disappeared. "...Someone was there." His heartbeat quickened. He had lived in Silverveil Forest his entire life, hidden away from the kingdoms beyond. No stranger had ever found the sacred sanctuary. Until now. "Lysander." A calm voice echoed behind him. He turned to find the High Priestess Elara stepping from the temple gates, her silver robes flowing in the breeze. "You sensed it, didn't you?" Lysander nodded slowly. "There was someone watching me." Elara's gentle expression hardened. "The day we feared has finally arrived." Without another word, she led him into the ancient temple. Candles lit themselves as they entered. The walls were covered with carvings of wolves, moons, and forgotten kings. At the center stood a crystal altar glowing with pale blue light. Elara placed her hand upon it. The crystal shimmered. Then an image appeared. A black wolf stood atop a mountain of bones, its sapphire eyes burning with terrifying power. Behind it... A silver wolf covered in moonlight gazed toward the heavens. The two wolves slowly approached each other. Just as they touched noses— The vision exploded into flames. Lysander staggered backward. "What does it mean?" Elara closed her eyes. "It is the ancient prophecy." "The Black Wolf is the future Alpha King." "The Silver Wolf is the Last Celestial Omega." "Their meeting will decide whether this world survives... or falls into darkness." Lysander lowered his gaze. "I don't want power." "I just want to live peacefully." Elara smiled sadly. "Destiny rarely asks what we want." Far beyond the forest... The Ravencrest Kingdom prepared for its greatest celebration. Thousands gathered before the royal palace. Today was the twentieth birthday of Crown Prince Kael Ravencrest. The strongest Alpha of his generation. Noble families bowed as Kael walked through the palace courtyard. He wore black ceremonial robes embroidered with silver wolves. His expression was unreadable. Cold. Distant. Untouchable. The crowd admired him from afar. "No wonder every noble Omega wishes to become his mate." "They say he defeated a rogue Alpha with one strike." "I heard even the generals fear him." Kael ignored every whisper. His loyal knight, Rowan, stepped beside him. "Your Highness, ambassadors from the Eastern Kingdom have arrived." Kael nodded. "And the council?" "They're waiting." Without another word, he entered the throne hall. The celebration ended the moment the doors closed. Inside... The kingdom's greatest generals stood around a massive map. King Aldric spoke first. "Our scouts have found traces of Celestial energy." Silence filled the room. An elderly minister frowned. "After twenty years?" "So... the rumors were true." King Aldric looked directly at Kael. "The Last Celestial Omega is alive." Kael's expression never changed. "What are your orders?" The king's eyes darkened. "Find him." The room fell silent. "And if the prophecy proves true..." His voice became cold as ice. "Kill him before the mate bond awakens." Several ministers lowered their heads. No one dared question the king. Kael simply replied, "As you command." Yet... For reasons he couldn't explain... His chest suddenly tightened. As though his heart rejected those words. That same night... Lysander stood alone beside the Moon Lake. Its waters reflected countless stars. He closed his eyes and whispered a prayer. "Moon Goddess..." "If my existence truly brings disaster..." "Please..." "Take my life instead." The wind suddenly stopped. The lake began to glow. Silver petals floated across the water. Then a woman's voice echoed through the night. Soft. Ancient. Filled with sorrow. "Child..." "You were never born to destroy the world." "You were born to change it." Lysander's eyes flew open. But no one was there. Only the moon... Watching him from above. Far away, in Ravencrest Palace, Kael awoke from a dream. In it, he had seen a silver-haired young man standing beneath a full moon. Their eyes met... And tears rolled down the stranger's face. Kael sat upright, breathing heavily. He had never seen that face before. So why... Did his heart ache as if he had lost someone he love
