16 Ice Spell Dragon

“No way, Walt…she’s bad news, she’s a backstabbing little-” “Ahem!” Miranda interrupted Jenny’s protests. The demon cat had accidentally triggered their task and had to play it as well. Walt knew she was a good player and wanted her to join his team but Jenny was not happy about it and Ailsa was not so thrilled either. “Look Jenny, I know I was not the best teammate but I’ve changed!” she said with a jump “and, I can really help you guys. You all move around so noisily, except you,” she pointed to Ailsa with a smile. “I don’t see what choice we have. She can’t take the dragon on her own and we need all the help we can get,” Walt said. Jenny pouted and folded her arms stubbornly but relaxed when Ailsa gave her a meaningful look. “Fine,” Jenny muttered. “Yay!” Miranda screamed and summersaulted towards Ailsa and Jenny, throwing her arms around their necks with a grin on her face “we’re going to be like best friends!” she said and laughed. Ailsa and Jenny squirmed under the squeeze of her slender arms but she held on tighter. They managed to free themselves from her grip and Jenny glared at her. “Answer this, why did you tell me your name is Alice when it’s Miranda?” Jenny asked. “Well,” Miranda said with a giggle “this is wonderland and I went down the rabbit hole,” Jenny rolled her eyes but Ailsa laughed, she was a little amusing. “Okay, we’re all acquainted now. We need to get our plan in motion,” Walt said and bring Miranda up to speed with the task at hand. She said she had been tracing the Ice Spell Dragon too but she wanted to sell some of its sheddings because it's filled with magical qualities that can fetch a lot of gold pieces. Ailsa and Jenny eventually warmed up to the new girl because she was very sunny and playful, it was a bit difficult not to like her. The four of them put their heads together and with Miranda’s sneaky senses, they created a series of traps for the Ice Spell Dragon. The first trap they set up was a fall trap. Ailsa used her nature control to create a giant trench big enough to contain the dragon in the middle of the ice floor of the dragon’s nest, the effort weakened her a bit. Jenny and Miranda used spells to cover up the trench so it mimicked the normal floor. The Ice Spell Dragon was too strong for magical attacks, so Walt and Jenny climbed down the trench to dig out strategic hiding places for them to stay when the dragon falls in. Walt was aware that the single attack in that nest will not kill the dragon and it might be able to escape, so he took Ailsa with him to the canyon in Ice Field and told Jenny and Miranda to try to hide the trench as well as they could. The canyon was close to the mountain where the dragon’s cave was, so they used invisibility cloaks to hide . Once at the canyon, Walt told Ailsa his plan which was to create as many ice boulders as they could and place them up the sides of the canyon. Ailsa would use a spell to keep the boulders suspended. So, if the dragon goes through the canyon, she would break the spell and cause a lot of damage to it. Walt did not know how to use spells like the rest of his team, so he used a sword to carve up ice boulders which Ailsa swung to the sides of the canyon with her powers. The task took the whole day and they were both exhausted at the end of it. They returned to the dragon’s nest to see that Jenny and Miranda had finished covering up the trench, it looked perfect. The four of them returned to the village and gathered enough supplies and equipment to help them camp around the dragon’s nest. Because Miranda was new to the group, Walt asked her to give him her money because they spent as a group. She was hesitant but handed it over, although he suspected she did not drop all her money. Once they got back to the nest, Ailsa used her nature control power to create a camouflage for them so that they blended into the icy forest. Then they waited, patiently.   One morning, after a week of waiting in the forest, Miranda felt tremors beneath her as she laid asleep. She shot up and her ears twitched. “Jenny,” she whispered, tapping her as she laid asleep next to her. Jenny swatted her hand at Miranda, nut she kept tapping her until she woke up. “What? What is it?” Jenny moaned. “He’s coming,” Miranda sang. Jenny felt very awake immediately, Miranda has taken to calling the dragon ‘him’ which annoyed Walt and the others to no end. Jenny was not thinking about that in that moment though, she got to her feet immediately and dashed out of the tent she shared with Miranda. “Wait up!” Miranda ran after her reluctant teammate. The two of them woke Walt and Ailsa quickly and moved into their various positions. They made their way to the nest as fast as they could, they could all hear the flapping of the dragon’s giant wings in the distance now. Walt and Jenny made their way down the trench to their carefully situated hiding places which were opposite each other, so they could fight the Ice Spell Dragon from both sides. Ailsa, because she was a long-range warrior hid at the top of one of the ice slabs that stretched up to the roof of the nest area. Miranda used the shadows as her hiding place, she stayed near Ailsa because Walt had told her to protect her as she used Eclipse on the Ice Spell Dragon. As they waited in the dark and in silence, they could hear the flapping. It was getting louder and it made the ground shake. The mana was also there again, so thick and overwhelming that they could all feel their hearts pounding. It finally arrived, landing with so much force that it shook the entire nest. Ailsa had to dig her daggers into the ice and hold on, so she would not fall. Jenny and Walt could not see anything but each other, they said nothing as they waited. Ailsa and Miranda watched from the top as the dragon made its way closer below them, toward its nest. They could see that its skin was already flaking off, underneath was a shinier version of its icy scale armor. It paused suddenly and sniffed the air, then looked up at Ailsa. She gasped as it kept its gaze on her, although she knew it could not see her, she had used an invisibility cloak as well her power of nature control to disguise her smell. It was probably sensing Miranda who was near her. The dragon continued walking; it was almost near the trench. Walt could hear it as it made its way, one step, two steps, then thud! The fall made Miranda lose her balance and fall from the slab. Luckily, she always landed on all fours. The spell they used to hide the trench disappeared immediately, so they could see the dragon roaring as Walt and Jenny circled it carefully. Ailsa held her breath as she watched Walt and Jenny take jabs at the monstrous beast. She grabbed one of her arrows and held it against her bow, her chest heaved as she drew back the string as far as she could and released the arrow. Walt watched with wide eyes as the arrow Ailsa shot went through the wing of the dragon. It roared and flung its tail around so violently that it knocked Jenny to the side and smashed her against the wall of the trench. He sidestepped the ravaging beast and ran against the sides of the trench to gain some momentum before propelling himself towards the dragon. He swung his sword and used a whirlwind blow to land successive hits on the dragon. Using its head, the dragon veered its horn and hit Walt, making him fall back to the ground with a loud crash. “Walt!” Ailsa screamed and suddenly hovered above the ice slab, her nose flaring, her hair flying and her skin glowing. Miranda watched as Ailsa frowned at the dragon and pulled back the string of her bow which seemed to have grown bigger in size. The arrow that she sent flying spun at a dangerous rate towards the dragon. It could see the arrow coming and used its tail to deflect it, making the arrow pierce through the wall of the nest. The dragon was now pissed and locked its sight on Ailsa who widened her eyes. Miranda saw the Ice Dragon open its mouth, she knew it was about to send a blast of ice towards Ailsa and she knew it would kill her instantly. Ailsa seemed to freeze as she stared down the throat of the dragon at the ball of ice that was building up inside it. Miranda leaped off her feet as soon as the dragon sent the ice blast hurtling towards Ailsa. Using her thief skill, she contained the blast, stole it and in the last minute she sent it back towards the dragon but it flew and the blast hit the wall of the nest. Ailsa saw the dragon flying away and took off after it, Miranda followed her. The explosion from the ice blast caused the nest to start to cave in. Walt and Jenny jumped out of the trench just in time before the entire place fell apart and despite their injuries ran as fast as they could after Ailsa, Miranda, and the wounded Ice Spell Dragon.
