The Truth Begins

1086 Words
The night after the warehouse changed everything. Aarav sat by his window, staring out at the empty street below. The world looked normal—quiet houses, dim streetlights, distant sounds of traffic. But it didn’t feel normal anymore. Not after what they had seen. Not after what they now knew. His phone lay beside him. Silent. For once. “They’re not just watching,” he whispered. “They’re controlling something.” A soft knock came from the door. Meera. “Your parents think we’re studying,” she said as she stepped inside. “We should at least pretend.” Aarav gave a faint smile. “Right.” She sat across from him, placing her bag down. For a moment, neither spoke. Then Meera said quietly: “We need to talk about what happened.” Aarav nodded. “Two groups,” he said. “The watcher… and the others.” “And Rohan was caught in between,” Meera added. Aarav leaned forward. “No. I think it’s more than that.” He pulled out the photo again. Rohan’s face stared back at them. “He wasn’t just caught,” Aarav continued. “He found something.” Meera frowned. “Something big enough to make people chase him.” Aarav reached for the notebook. Page 17 still open. The decoded line: “Where walls end, the truth continues.” “That led us outside,” Meera said. “And the warehouse,” Aarav added. He flipped through more pages. “There’s more here. We just didn’t see it before.” Meera leaned closer. “What do you mean?” Aarav pointed to faint markings near the edges of several pages. “They’re not part of the main code,” he said. “They’re smaller… almost hidden.” Meera squinted. “Like side notes?” Aarav shook his head. “No. Like… directions.” He grabbed a pen and started copying the tiny symbols. One by one. Carefully. Minutes passed. Silence filled the room again. Then— Aarav froze. “What?” Meera asked. He looked up slowly. “This isn’t just one message.” Meera leaned in. “Then what is it?” Aarav swallowed. “It’s a sequence.” He arranged the symbols in order. Then decoded them. The message formed. Slowly. Piece by piece. Aarav read it aloud: “They are always watching.” Meera’s expression tightened. “That’s not helpful.” Aarav continued. “There’s more.” He decoded the next line. “Not just the school.” Silence. Meera whispered: “…What?” Aarav’s hands trembled slightly. “This doesn’t stop at the school,” he said. “It never did.” He flipped another page. Another hidden line. Decoded. “Data is everything.” Meera sat back. “Data?” Aarav’s mind raced. “Tracking,” he said. “Monitoring.” His eyes widened. “They weren’t just hiding rooms,” he whispered. “They were collecting information.” Meera stared at him. “You mean… on students?” Aarav didn’t answer immediately. Because the answer felt too real. Then— He nodded. “Yes.” The room felt colder. Meera shook her head. “That doesn’t make sense. Why would anyone do that?” Aarav stood up suddenly. “Because information is power.” He began pacing. “Think about it—hidden rooms, computers, files… this wasn’t random. It was organized.” Meera’s voice dropped. “You think someone built a system?” Aarav stopped. Looked at her. “I think Rohan discovered it.” Silence. Then Meera said: “And that’s why he disappeared.” Aarav nodded slowly. “Exactly.” The next day— They returned to the warehouse. But this time— In daylight. It looked different. Less threatening. But not safe. “Still a bad idea,” Meera said. Aarav smirked slightly. “Still doing it.” They entered carefully. The investigation wall still stood. Covered in connections. Aarav moved closer. Studying it more carefully. “This wasn’t just notes,” he said. “It’s a map.” Meera frowned. “Of what?” Aarav pointed. Lines connected locations. Not just the school. Multiple points. Around the town. “This system,” he said, “it’s bigger.” Meera stepped back slightly. “How big?” Aarav didn’t answer. Because at the center of the map— He saw something new. A label. “CONTROL NODE” His chest tightened. “That’s the main point,” he said. Meera leaned closer. “Where is it?” Aarav traced the lines. Followed the connections. Then— He froze. “No way…” “What?” Meera asked. Aarav looked at her. His voice barely above a whisper. “It’s inside the school.” Silence hit harder than before. Meera stared at him. “That’s not possible.” Aarav shook his head. “It is.” He pointed again. “All paths lead back here.” The school. A sudden noise behind them. They turned sharply. Nothing. But then— A faint movement. On the wall. A small screen flickered to life. Both of them stepped back. “What is that?” Meera whispered. The screen glowed brighter. Lines of text appeared. Scrolling. Then— It stopped. A single file opened. “SUBJECT ARCHIVE” Aarav’s breath caught. Names appeared. Rows. Columns. Student names. Data. Records. Meera covered her mouth. “This is real…” Aarav stepped closer. His eyes scanned the list. Then— He saw something. His own name. AARAV He froze. “No…” The file expanded automatically. More data. Movement logs. Time records. Location tracking. Everything. Meera whispered: “They’ve been tracking you…” Aarav’s heart pounded. Then— Another name. MEERA She stepped back. “No.” The screen flickered again. And then— A message appeared. “You weren’t supposed to see this.” Aarav’s pulse raced. He looked around. “Who’s there?” he shouted. No answer. Only silence. Then— One final line appeared. “Now you understand.” The screen went black. Aarav stood there. Frozen. Everything had changed. This wasn’t just about Rohan anymore. This was about them. Meera whispered: “Aarav… what do we do now?” He didn’t answer immediately. Because for the first time— He didn’t feel like he was solving the mystery. He felt like he was inside it. And there was no easy way out. Finally— He said quietly: “We find the control node.” END OF EPISODE 8
