The Final Puzzle

The word control node stayed in Aarav’s mind like a warning he couldn’t ignore. Even after they left the warehouse. Even after the screen went black. Even now— Standing outside the school gates the next morning. “This is a bad idea,” Meera said quietly. Aarav didn’t argue. Because she was right. But that didn’t change anything. “If the system is controlled from inside the school,” he said, “then that’s where we find the truth.” Meera crossed her arms. “And possibly the people running it.” Aarav nodded. They walked through the gates. Everything looked normal. Students talking. Teachers walking. Classes beginning. But now— Every face felt different. Every hallway felt watched. “They could be anyone,” Meera whispered. Aarav glanced around. “Or everyone.” They didn’t go to class. Instead, they moved through the quieter corridors, sticking to less crowded paths. “Where do we even start?” Meera asked. Aarav thought back to the wall in the warehouse. The map. The connections. “Basements,” he said. Meera frowned. “Why?” “Control systems are hidden,” Aarav replied. “Not visible. Not obvious.” They made their way to the oldest part of the school. The hallway grew quieter. Darker. A sign hung crookedly: “AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ONLY” Meera stopped. “That’s not suspicious at all.” Aarav smirked slightly. “Exactly.” He pushed the door open. Inside— A narrow staircase led downward. Cool air drifted up. Meera hesitated. “Aarav…” He looked back. “This is it,” he said. And then— He stepped down. The basement was silent. Too silent. The lights flickered overhead. Some working. Some not. Pipes ran along the ceiling. Old walls. Concrete floor. “This place hasn’t been used in years,” Meera whispered. “Or,” Aarav said quietly, “it hasn’t been used openly.” They moved deeper. Every step echoed. Then— Aarav stopped. “Listen.” Meera froze. A faint sound. A hum. Low. Constant. “Electric,” Aarav said. Meera’s eyes widened. “In a place like this?” Aarav followed the sound. Down another corridor. Past locked doors. Until— They reached it. A metal door. New. Unlike everything else. Clean. Untouched. “This doesn’t belong here,” Meera said. Aarav stepped closer. There was no handle. Only a keypad. A code. Meera let out a quiet laugh. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” Aarav smiled slightly. “Looks like we found the final puzzle.” He studied the keypad. Four digits. “What do we know?” Meera asked. Aarav thought. Fast. “Rohan’s clues always connect,” he said. Clock. 3:17. He entered it. 3170 Error. Meera sighed. “Of course.” Aarav stepped back. Think. Page 17. Warehouse. Coordinates. He tried another combination. Error. The keypad beeped sharply. “Careful,” Meera whispered. “Too many tries and—” The light above flickered. Aarav froze. The hum behind the door grew louder. Almost like— Machines. Then— It clicked. “Wait,” he said. Meera looked at him. “What?” Aarav smiled slightly. “Not numbers.” He looked at the keypad again. Each number had letters. Old phone style. “Rohan didn’t just leave numbers,” Aarav said. “He left words.” He quickly translated. From the code. From the notebook. From the message. One word stood out. “TRUTH” He entered it using the keypad. 8–7–8–8–4 A pause. Then— Beep. The door unlocked. Meera stared. “You’re actually insane.” Aarav grinned. “Or right.” The door opened slowly. A rush of cold air hit them. Inside— Light. Bright. White. Rows of screens. Computers. Wires. Machines humming steadily. The control node. Meera stepped in slowly. “This is… impossible.” Aarav’s eyes moved across the screens. Live feeds. Hallways. Classrooms. Corridors. The entire school. “They’re watching everything,” Meera whispered. Aarav stepped closer to one screen. Data scrolled endlessly. Names. Movements. Records. “This is what Rohan found,” Aarav said. Suddenly— A screen changed. Automatically. “ACCESS DETECTED” Meera’s heart dropped. “They know we’re here.” Aarav turned. “We don’t have much time.” Another screen lit up. A video file. Name: ROHAN_MEHTA_FINAL_LOG Aarav froze. “This is it.” He clicked it. The screen flickered. Then— Rohan appeared. Alive. Recording himself. “If you’re watching this,” Rohan said, “it means I didn’t make it.” Meera covered her mouth. Aarav didn’t blink. “I found something,” Rohan continued. “Something they’re hiding.” Behind him— The same room. The control node. “They’re not just watching the school,” he said. “They’re collecting data.” Aarav’s chest tightened. “Behavior patterns. Movements. Reactions,” Rohan said. “They’re studying people.” Meera whispered: “Why…?” Rohan looked directly into the camera. “I don’t know who’s behind it,” he said. “But I know one thing.” His voice lowered. “They’re still here.” The video glitched. Static filled the screen. Then— One final sentence. “Trust no one.” The screen went black. Silence. Heavy. Unavoidable. Meera stepped back. “This is bigger than we thought.” Aarav nodded slowly. “Yes.” Then— A sound. Behind them. The door. Closing. A shadow moved across the floor. A voice. Cold. Calm. “You should have listened.” Aarav turned. This time— The figure stepped fully into the light. And Aarav recognized them. His eyes widened. “No way…” END OF EPISODE 9
