One Night With Him

Chapter 5:The Aquarium

Mikayla thought of her last date with Miguel as she walked down the stairs leading to the kitchen.

They had come to a reasonable conclusion that they would act as husband and wife as expected of them in public to keep up appearances, but in private, they would stay out of each other's air.

It has been four days since their last date and today, they had another date planned.

They had exchanged numbers that day, and he had not ceased to make fun of her and everything she posted.

He had also started following her on all her social media handles - i********:, Snapchat, LinkedIn and the rest.

And he has liked and commented on all of her videos too.

“Very weird man”, she thought, smiling.

“How did you sleep, mi amor?” Her father asked, as soon as she walked into the kitchen.

" I slept well papa. How are you doing?" Mikayla asked.

“Oh I'm fine my dear. You look perfect. Coffee?" He asked

" Oh, thank you daddy. Yes please, no milk with a little sugar”Mikayla said

" I know my dear. I gave birth to you and you've been with me for 23 years “ Her Dad responded,before proceeding to make her coffee

“I see you and Miguel have been texting and stuffs" he continued,smiling at her

“Si papa [Yes papa],we have. We have a date planned today too"Mikayla responded

Mikayla's dad was Spanish so she had grown up learning the basic words in Spanish language.

“ Oh I see. That's wonderful" her dad said,handing her coffee to her.

“Don't get any funny ideas daddy. We're not friends, we're just texting" Mikayla said,sipping her coffee

" Where's mama?”she asked

" Your mum is in her office, she's not talking to me yet. Still very annoyed”her dad said, sighing

Mikayla patted her dad's hand from across the table and said “ she will talk to you eventually,I'm sure of it. Besides,you didn't do anything wrong”

" I know I know. But are you okay?”her dad asked

Mikayla smiled and said" of course I am papa. I'm stronger than I look”

" That's my girl”her dad said

Mikayla's phone beeped and she checked to see that she had a message from Miguel , saying that he was outside the door.

“I have to go now papa" she told her dad

Her dad smiled and said “ Is it Miguel? I want to say hi to him”

" No daddy. We're late. Bye papa.” She said,kissing her dad on the cheeks before walking of the kitchen to the front door.

She opened it to see Miguel leaning on his car. He was wearing a black shirt and grey pant trousers and she could smell his perfume from where she was standing.

He was scrolling through his phone and she stood there,staring at him. He looked up and saw her staring at him

He smiled at her and said” Take a picture, it'll last longer"

“Oh please,as if"Mikayla said,walking to his car

He opened the car door and said" Mi’lady”,then closed it as soon as she got in.

" Sooo,where are we headed?” She asked,as soon as he got settled in and started driving

“It's a surprise." He answered

“I hate surprises" Mikayla said,frowning

" Why? Had a case of bad surprises before?”Miguel asked

" I thought we agreed that no personal questions”Mikayla said

" But yes,had a bad surprise once”She continued

Miguel looked at her and used his hand to touch her cheek

Mikayla looked at him and smiled a little , before removing his hand from her cheek as if she had been reminded of the fact that they were not friends

“Eyes on the road mister" she said

Miguel redrawed his hand and focused on driving,gripping the steering wheel tightly.

They kept driving in silence for another five minutes until Mikayla sighed and said “Are we almost there?"breaking the silence

“Can you just keep still and just relax ?"We're almost there”Miguel said,angrily

" What's got your panties in a twist?Why are you so mad at me?”Mikayla asked,staring at Miguel

" Just shut up and wait till we get there”Miguel said

Mikayla frowned and turned to face the other car window wondering what she had done to make him so mad at her.

“I'm sorry" she heard him say and she turned to look at him

" What?”she asked

" I said I'm sorry. I shouldn't have shouted at you”Miguel answered

" Look, it's fine. The sooner we get to where we're going,the sooner we end our date and the sooner we can be out of each other's air”Mikayla said

" We're here”Miguel said and Mikayla looked around to see that they had reached their destination and that they were at an aquarium.

Not just any aquarium though,the only one that was rumored to have almost all the sea creatures and the particular one she had been struggling to get into.

“How did you …”she tried to say but he cut off and said" Let's start our date,shall we?",opening the car door for her and holding out his hand for her.

She took his hand and together ,they walked into the aquarium,still holding hands.

One of the officials in the aquarium walked up to them and said”Your table is right this way sir. If you'll just follow me”

Miguel smiled at her and then followed her,pulling Mikayla along with him. They got to their table and Mikayla gasped.

Their table was set in a way that they have a frontline massive view of the sea creatures in the bottled up tank. It was so beautiful that she felt like she could cry but then she would ruin her makeup.

“What do you think?" Miguel asked

“It's beautiful" She answered,still looking at the tank

“Yes, it is" Miguel said,looking at her

Mikayla turned to him and said” I don't know how you know that I've been dying to come here but thank you”

" It's nothing. Have a seat”Miguel said,dropping her hand and pulling out a chair for her.

She sat down and stared at him,trying to figure out why he was being nice to her,till it hit her.

“You're just trying to keep up appearances,isn't it?"

“What do you mean?" Miguel asked

“Thisss,the fancy date,the holding of hands" Mikayla answered

“You can't be serious?" Miguel asked

“Oh I am. Very very,I know what you're doing and it's not going to work" Mikayla said

" Get over yourself ,will you? I just thought to do something nice for you and all I get is this?”Miguel said,annoyed

" Don't act nicely with me. I don't need it, it's not like we're friends or anything”Mikayla said

“I see" Miguel muttered

The waiter soon came to their table with varieties of sea foods on the plate. He dropped it on their table and left

Miguel smirked at Mikayla and said “Dig in"

“Of course not,who serves sea foods in an aquarium. That's just so dark" she said

“That's what the fishes are for. If you noticed,this lobster was in that tank minutes ago" he said, pointing to the lobster on his place

" Oh my God . Why would they do that? That's just being evil”she said,annoyed

Miguel kept staring at her , obviously amused by the little tantrums she was throwing

" Can we leave? We'll eat somewhere else,I'll pay for it. Let's just go,I don't want to eat this poor creatures”she said

Miguel laughed out loud and said"Relax,I was just teasing. Of course they don't eat the fishes”

" Then what are this? Mikayla asked

" They get their fishes and sea foods from the fishermen in the nearby village” he answerdt

" How would you know?”She asked

" Because I own the aquarium”he answered.

Mikayla kept staring at him before muttering " oh,I see”

" Good,so eat your food and let's get down to business”Miguel said

They kept eating in silence until Mikayla looked up to see Miguel staring at her.

“Do I have something on my face?" She asked

" Don't answer that. I know what you're going to say.”she continued

" What was I going to say?”Miguel asked,confused

“You were probably going to say that I had beauty on my face. You know, that famous line that guys use on women" she said

“Don't flatter yourself my dear. You do have something on your lips not face and it's soy sauce not beauty”Miguel said

Mikayla stared angrily at him and tried to clean her lips when he said" Let me help you”

"I don't need your help”she started to say,when he leaned over from his seat and covered her lips with his ,kissing her and licking the soy sauce off her lips. Satisfied,he leaned back into his seat and smiled at her.

Breathless,Mikayla took a glass of water before saying “You didn't have to kiss me to help me . You could have used a napkin"

“It was better that way. Besides,I like your lips" Miguel said

Mikayla’s phone dinged before she could respond and she opened it to see a message from Lucas. She turned the phone screen down and kept picking at her food.

" Is something wrong?”Miguel asked,wondering what she saw on her phone that could have spoiled her mood.

“Yes. Everything's okay" she said, softly

Her phone dinged and she sighed frustratedly,before checking it again

“Doesn't seem like it is”Miguel said

" It's just Lucas”Mikayla said, sighing

“Remind who Lucas is again ?”Miguel asked

" My ex boyfriend”Mikayla said, chuckling

" The cheating one?”Miguel asked

“Yes" Mikayla answered, laughing

“Oh" Miguel said

“Yes,oh" Mikayla said “Do you want to go now?. I'm tired and I just want to lay on my bed”she continued

" Yes sure”Miguel said,standing up and helping her with her seat.

They stepped out,got into the car and drove off.

“Thank you for the date,even if I still think eating sea food at an aquarium is dark" Mikayla said,as soon as they got to her place.

“You're welcome. Don't forget we're getting married in two weeks" Miguel said, smirking

“You just had to remind me that I'm going to be stuck with you for a long time. How will I survive?”Mikayla said, sarcastically

" Ha ha ,very funny”Miguel said, holding her door for her.

Mikayla grabbed her purse and stepped out of the car,looking at her front door. It looked like someone oddly familiar was standing and starimg at them.

Miguel noticed her staring and turned to look at what she was staring at.

" Were you expecting someone?”he asked

" Not that I know of”she responded

The person started walking towards them and then Mikayla could see that the person was no other person than Lucas.

" Where did you put your phone? I've been texting you.”Lucas said,as soon as he got to where Miguel and Mikayla were.

" What are you doing here?”Mikayla asked

" I came to look for you. I see that you have company" Lucas said,looking at Miguel

“Well,you've seen me now. I don't have anything to say to you,so can you just leave?" Mikayla said

“I want to talk to you. Please just hear me out?" Lucas asked

“I don't want to talk or listen to you. We're over" Mikayla said

Lucas tried to touch Mikayla's arm but Miguel who had been standing with folded arms,watching their banter, stepped in and pulled Mikayla to his side

“I believe she asked you to leave mister" he said

“And who might you be ?" Lucas asked

“Her husband to be" Miguel said,smirking at him,still holding Mikayla to his side.

Lucas gasped and looked at Mikayla,who in turn looked at Miguel. Miguel smiled at her and said “Right,my love?"

“Yes yes…" Mikayla stammered

“You're lying. You're using me to get back at me and it's fine. But let's just talk about it,I miss you" Lucas said

" I guess you didn't miss me when you were sleeping with Alessia,did you?”Mikayla said

" But it's not what it seemed like”Lucas said

Mikayla turned to Miguel and said" I enjoyed the date thank you. I'll text you later ", kissing him on the cheeks before walking into her house.

Lucas tries to follow her in but Miguel pulls him back and said"Just back off and stay away from my wife to be. You don't want to try me,trust me”, before entering his car and zooming off,leaving Lucas confused
