Once I led Rachel back outside Vicente walked to us smiling. He nodded towards Cecilia who was by the beverage table and I knew he was signaling me to talk to her. He grabbed Rachel by the arm and gently pulled her away.
As he did she turned back to me, her blue eyes wide with fear.
“It’s ok,” I said reassuring her. “I’ll come to you after I sort everything out.”
She looked at Cecilia then back at me. She nodded hesitantly and walked away with Vicente who gave me an encouraging smile.
I turned towards Cecilia, ready to deal with the consequences.
“Cecilia?” I said as approached her.
She looked up and smiled. “Hello! How was the library? Is Rachel better?”
I looked at her, not really knowing what to say. “She’s just fine.” I responded.
She nodded and picked up a pastry. “I
