Kaelen’s POV My fingers dug into my skin as I stared at the sword stretched out before me. I swallowed, trying to hide the fear that filled my gut. “Let’s put on a show for the soldiers to see what their new leader is made of,” Dean’s voice was low, laced with venom. My jaw clenched. I didn’t think he knew about my fear. I could see it in his eyes, glinting with mischief. I dragged my feet forward, taking the unsheathed sword from him. My knuckles turned white at how hard I held it. I took several steps back, eyes boring into the man, who seemed to be enjoying himself.
