Chapter 21: The Expansion Of Forest Creamery

1183 Words
Toby was delighted by his wife’s appearance, but after a while, his stomach began to hurt. When it became too much to bear, he was forced to dash to the toilet. He had a smooth s**t and he immediately felt better, and when he got up, his pants would not stay up. His belly had shrunk two sizes.  He was amazed, and when he showed his wife, she was too. But they could not understand how ice cream could do this. Toby embraced his wife warmly. They had been living a rich life, but they had always been troubled by the imperfections in their appearances. Now, thanks to Ryan’s ice cream, this was no longer a concern for them. “This is impressive!” Toby exclaimed. “What did you do to the ice cream?” He had been skeptical about Ryan’s ice cream parlor, but he had been completely won over. Before Ryan could answer, Toby’s wife interrupted them. She said, “We should work together. Do you want to hear my plan?” Ryan was a forgiving man. He nodded and looked at Toby’s wife. He was ready to work together, provided they could form a mutually beneficial relationship. “We can sell your ice cream in our restaurant,” Toby’s wife suggested. “Of course, we would keep a small percentage of the profits.” Ryan frowned. He suspected that what she thought of as small was likely much more that he was willing to part with.  That being said, as a means of promoting his product, it could be just what he needed. “Alright,” he said. “Let’s do it.” Toby and his wife were satisfied with Ryan’s decision, and they were ready to help promote Ryan’s ice creams. “You are making the right decision,” Toby said. Ryan smiled but said nothing in return.   ***   The next day, Ryan did over ten thousand dollars in sales. This made the two previous employees regret quitting. They had always worked on commission, and they had barely made any money while working for Zack. So, when they saw that Forest Creamery was a success, they wanted to ask Ryan for their old jobs back. They waited until the following day, and when they entered the ice cream parlor, they saw that he was busy with customers. When he was done, they nervously approached him and said, “Good morning, sir. We were wondering if you were hiring and if you might have a moment to discuss our candidacy for any open positions. We worked for Mr. Zack, so we know our way around an ice cream parlor. Plus, we both have Business degrees from NorQuest College.” The applicants were confident that Ryan would hire them on the spot and offer them a decent salary. Ryan looked them over. They seemed too arrogant to be working in an ice cream parlor. Moreover, he liked the chubby man that he had already hired to be his assistant. Phil worked hard, and he did not ask for a high salary. “I don’t care about your education,” he said. “And I don’t need your help. I have a perfectly good assistant.” “You don’t know what’s good for you,” the first applicant exclaimed. “We came here to help. You’ll regret this.” Ryan shrugged and turned back to his work. The two college students scowled and stormed out of Forest Creamery without saying another word.   ***   Over the next month, Forest Creamery franchises began to pop up all over the city, and they were busier than Dairy Queen, Baskin Robbins, and Marble Slab combined. The flavors that Ryan had concocted helped people regain and retain their health and vitality. They were suitable for people of all ages, and Ryan’s prices were the same as any other ice cream parlor in the city. One day, a group of young people came to the shop while Ryan was checking the financial statements. The one leading the group was a young lady with a ponytail. She wore a business suit, and she looked slim and graceful. She walked up to the counter and said, “I am happy to meet you, Mr. Jones. Do you have time for a short interview? We’d like to know how you make your magic ice cream.” Ryan thought about it for a second, and he was about to say no, but then he saw how closely Phil was watching them. If the interview happened, it would be the first time that Phil would have witnessed one, and it was plain to see that he was excited by the prospect. Ryan sighed, and then he invited Phil to sit next to him so that he could be on television with him. The interview was over quickly, and once it went to life, it went viral. Some thought that it was a false advertisement, but anyone who tasted the product was instantly won over, and pretty soon people were calling it, The Heal All Ice Cream.   ***   One day, while Linnet was reading in her room, her younger brother barged in. “Come and see which of your friends is on TV!” he exclaimed.   Linnet gave him a curious look as she put down her book. “Who is it?” she asked. Her brother laughed and said, “Come and see for yourself!” He took off running, and Linnet hurried after him. The television was on already, and when she saw who it was, she could not believe her eyes. Immediately, tears filled her eyes. She deeply regretted what she had said to Ryan on the day that he had purchased the shop. “I should have trusted him,” she muttered. “Are you guys are a couple?” Her brother asked. In my dreams – thought Linnet. Her face turned red, and she tried to hide it from her nosey brother. “You do like him!” he exclaimed. “You blushed!” “Whatever.” Linnet gave him a dirty look and said, “You don’t know half as much as you think you do!”   ***   Mooney was not surprised when he saw that Ryan was on the news. He believed that Ryan could do anything that he set his mind to. He turned to his son and said, “Look at that. It generally takes years for a start-up to generate profit, but Ryan made it happen in less than two months. What do you think of him?” “I think that we are lucky to have him on our side,” Den replied. “In the near future, he will be a person of interest. I just hope that he can handle the task he has been given. If he fails, the fallout will be devastating…”
