April deliberately took her time getting home that evening. She could have left the office earlier, but she didn’t want to. Not today. Instead, she spent extra time with Gina, chatting about nothing in particular, laughing at things that weren’t really funny, and pretending she didn’t have a husband waiting at home. Not that Richard ever waited for her. By the time she finally arrived at the house, it was already late. She let out a small breath as she stepped inside, expecting the place to be quiet, expecting Richard to be in his study or, at the very least, in their room. But he wasn’t.
